Grand Highlander - Somewhat disappointment
I purchased my 2025 Grand Highlander in May, 2025, after waiting for about 3 months for my order to come in. I have owned Honda Pilots, for about 22 years, the last one being the Touring model, and decided to try the Grand Highlander after Honda changed the body style of its Pilot, eliminating some of the cargo space in the back. The Grand Highlander gave me about 10 more cubic feet of cargo space. However, there are MULTIPLE features of the Highlander that I absolutely cannot stand! One of the biggest complaints is the camera that is installed in the steering column that "Watches" the driver, and if that camera detects that you have turned your head, for example, or what it interprets as "not paying attention to the road," a message alert pops up on the display that basically says, "STOP, PAY ATTENTION TO THE ROAD, TURN YOUR HEAD BACK TO THE ROAD!" It's like "Big Brother" is watching you!! I spent hours going through the Owner's Manual, turning off all of the "Safety" features that the car designer's think are necessary for the owners of their vehicles. When I contacted the dealer to ask for assistance in turning OFF this invasive camera, even the tech person at the dealer had a difficult time turning it off! It actually took TWO steps in turning it off; I had only found the 1st step in the Owner's Manual. One of the most annoying 'Economy' features in when the vehicle comes to a stop at a stoplight, for example, the engine automatically shuts off, to supposedly save fuel! So when the driver goes to step on the gas to go, the car engine re-starts, which is not quite instantaneous, causing a hesitation in the movement of the car. That feature, unfortunately, is not one that can be permanently disabled, so one must shut off that "Auto" feature every time the car is started!!! In my opinion, that 'Economy' feature should be eliminated entirely!!! In addition to the multiple ANNOYING 'Safety features,' that I turned off, I also discovered that the Grand Highlander does NOT have the abundance of storage compartments that the Honda Pilot offers! I also don't think the Grand Highlander gets as good of gas mileage that the Pilot gets. The one feature that the Grand Highland has that the Honda Pilot does not have is the standard gear shift, which I like. Overall, I have been rather disappointed with the Grand Highlander, compared to the Honda Pilot Touring, so I will be going back to the Honda Pilot Touring in the next couple of years!
