A bravely-designed and practical car, slightly let down by quirks

I have overall enjoyed my time with the Santa Fe over the last 1.5 years and 22,000 miles. The brave design, huge interior dimensions, good power from the 2.5l Smartstream, and overall suspension/handling were all pleasant surprises, especially coming from a more performance-oriented BMW SUV. After testing this car against a BMW X3, X5, Acura MDX, Hyundai Group's own Genesis GV80, the Honda Pilot, Lexus RX350, and the Toyota Grand Highlander, I chose the Santa Fe for its exceptionally-designed interior, intuitive infotainment system, and the above-mentioned driving dynamics. In fact, the Santa Fe sharing a base engine, infotainment layout, HVAC control interface, general cabin features, and overall feel with the Genesis GV80 was a pleasant surprise. This car has been slightly let down by a mixture of 1st year quirks and the poor quality control of American assembly. My specific unit has multiple incorrectly-assembled components, including a driver's door that sits proud of the frame and allows wind in at highway speeds. 2x cord packs under the rear seats have broken retention clips that were obviously taped back into place on the assembly line vs. having their click-in mechanism replaced. The front sunroof rubber weather seal has been slowly disintegrating since I first noticed it last year, and now has multiple holes. The rear driver's door handles no longer feel smooth to open. I hope to have all these issues addressed in one go under Hyundai's 5y/60k warranty and hope my local Hyundai dealer is helpful with getting these issues sorted out.

Hyundai 2024 Santa Fe Calligraphy

I love my Santa Fe. It has all the features I wanted in a vehicle. The ride is very comfortable in the front and the second row. I haven't been in the 3rd row although we did need to use it for a trip with kids. The 360 cameras and the back window view were a major feature I wanted.

Loved the interior, started having issues at 20k miles

Loved the car at first. Started having brake issues, rattling passenger side interior, and then loud engine with check engine light on at 24k miles. Sick of dealing with with issues. Sold the car. Was my first Hyundai and I was disappointed.

Good, but could be great.

This vehicle is loaded with technology and extras. What would have made it a fantastic vehicle is a 6-cylinder engine to give it more horsepower and torque. That would have raised the bar on the vehicle since it’s already good looking.

Hyundai loyalist still satisfied

I have owned four Hyundai cars now and this one by far is my favorite. The problem comes with availability. I wanted a color and I wanted AWD which in my hometown is hard to find. Otherwise my car is great runs well and has no problems so far but I only have a little under 13k miles on it. So time will tell

Great SUV

I’ve had my Santa Fe since January and absolutely love it! It has a sporty exterior with everything you would ever think you would need on the inside. If the car had more trunk space with the third row up I would’ve given it a 5 star rating. Other than that this this is a great family SUV

Broken screen, multiple recalls

My screen started glitching at 5k miles and went completely out at 10k miles. I have brought it to dealer 4 times in 6 months and it still isn’t fixed. Those trips don’t even count the multiple recalls.

Love / Hate Relationship

Rides and handles marvelous. Space throughout is great. That's all the pros. As for the cons: door locking system sucks that you can't use interior buttons to lock when exiting. Hate that you can't just open the door at the end of the day to lock your vehicle, you must have the key. Console buttons are ridiculously small and extremely difficult to read. To change radio is a stress factor as well. The interior finish is always fingerprinted up. And the vehicle tells at me constantly with crazy warnings, wants me to be addicted to coffee because every trip it suggests such every ten minutes. Dispose the lane assists automatically comes on with cruise control.
