Ioniq 6 SE, The finest EV I have owned

My 2023 Ioniq 6 SE was purchased with 1,500 miles and has over 50,000 miles now It has averaged over 4.1 m/kwh over its life so far. This is in exclusive upper New York climes. It has 20 inch tires which contribute to excellent range just slightly less than the RWD. In eco mode it runs in RWD but switches to AWD in any situation where traction is needed and is a blast to drive in any mode. The regen braking is VERY adjustable. It is quiet, predictable, powerful and I especially love the analog and digital dual nature of the dash which gives me knobs and dials for most controls, which I prefer in this world of touch screens for everything! Blue and red are cold and hot repeictively and up arrows mean more and down arrows mean less. I am old school and proud of it.

Decent power with comfort

I like my Ioniq 6. It drives well and very comfortable. But I'm very unhappy with missing wireless android auto. I hope Hyundai get agreement with Google to enable android auto.

Mostly good but some not so good

I’ve enjoyed this car. It has been back about four times recalled which is kind of a hassle. The thing that I’m not happy about is that the area next to the cupholders where I rust my hand while I’m driving has worn off a thin layer of something and now has a very worn kind of ugly look. The other thing that bothers me and I found that this is something other drivers are having a problem with is that the front of my ionic six is very Susceptible to small paint chips. I’ve owned a lot of BMWs so much as five years old they don’t have this problem the ionic has it. It’s only two years old.

Fun, Fancy, and Fast

First EV car, and I'm never going back. The pickup, smooth shifting, and quiet ride, were surprising and unexpected. For a sedan, it had a roomy backseat, and the Limited model had all the tech bells and whistles to keep you entertained and safe at every turn.

Great vehicle - Comfortable and Spacious

I really like my IONIQ 6. The car is very comfortable and the autonomy is great. Plenty of space inside. Nice styling. Great accelerations. I wish the position of the driver seat could be memorized.

Great comfort, legroom & charging speed, but poor quality leatherette

I have owned this car for about 2 1/2 years, and overall I love it. It's beautiful, comfortable, spacious, charges quickly, has incredible back seat legroom and a pretty good interface for entertainment and info (although it's a little slow and unresponsive during the first couple of minutes after starting the car and some features take time to figure out), and it does have a decent number of physical buttons and dials to simplify access to common climate and music functions (so you don't have to do everything through the touchscreen). The acceleration in my Limited AWD version is incredible, but my passengers often got nauseous, so I started driving in Eco (slowest, most efficient, but still quick) mode most of the time. My biggest disappointment has been the upholstery. The Limited trim comes with their leatherette material called H-Tex, and within just the first 6 months of driving the car (at only 3,000 miles), the outer edge of the driver's seat started falling apart, leaving visible holes along the outer seam. Hyundai refused to fix it and claimed it fell under the category of "normal wear and tear". Upholstery falling apart like that within the first year of extremely low mileage driving seems highly abnormal to me (and certainly unexpected and frustrating). On the plus side, the automatic blind spot video display that pops up on the dashboard as soon as you engage either turn signal exceeded my expectations. It's really useful, high resolution and displayed in a convenient location on either side of the instrument panel (corresponding to whichever turn signal has been activated), which makes changing lanes much safer and easier. One final negative. Even though the car is incredibly smooth and quiet on smooth, well paved roads, you hear and feel a lot of vibration noise on rough, imperfect or bumpy roads. Lastly, even though the car has a nice "approach unlock" feature that automatically unlocks the doors when you walk up to the car door with the key fob, it lacks the ability to automatically lock the doors once you complete a drive and exit the car.

Thoughts from a Tesla Model 3 owner

I owned a Tesla Model 3 for about 4 years before switching to the Ioniq 6. Each has its pros and cons; which vehicle I’d recommend to a friend would depend on their priorities. Tesla advantages: - more horsepower - greater distance per charge - larger trunk and an actually useful frunk - better navigation screen, and can see entire screen while driving Ioniq advantages: - nicer interior - quieter cabin - roomier back seats - quieter alarms, and some can be silenced - no ridiculous silencing of music when door is opened - better brand I do miss the acceleration of my Tesla, and I’m not thrilled with the positioning or usability of the Ioniq’s screen. Still, overall I’d say I’m enjoying my Ioniq a bit more.

2023 Ioniq 6 Review

While I am pleased overall with the vehicle, there are several issues inherent in the design that are bad, and there was a major warranty repair required. The design issues include an overly sensitive vehicle avoidance system, a brake light bar that blinds the rearview camera. But the biggest issue was that in a car less than 2 years old, the main battery failed, requiring a 2 month wait for the replacement to be delivered from Korea. Hyundai did provide a loaner car over that period and the repair was covered under warranty, but this was a massive failure for a new car.

The Greatest Car I’ve Ever Owned

I bought the Ioniq 6 because I was able to get it at a very reasonable price, but as it turned out it was the best car I have ever owned! That being said, it’s not perfect.

generally well pleased. Needs more switches and knobs, not touch controls. doors unlock when you approach the car, and they should (but don't) lock when you leave. Window controls should be on the doors, not the center console
