Obsessed with My Ioniq 5 — Just Fix the CarPlay

I recently purchased the 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 and overall, I absolutely love this car. The design is sleek and modern, the ride is incredibly smooth, and the acceleration is impressive. The interior feels high-tech and comfortable, and the range has been more than sufficient for my daily driving and work travel. One small issue I’ve experienced is that Apple CarPlay has disconnected a few times unexpectedly. It’s not a constant problem, but it can be a bit frustrating when relying on navigation or music. I’m hoping this is something that can be resolved with a software update. That said, it hasn’t taken away from how much I enjoy driving this vehicle. It’s a fantastic EV and I would still highly recommend it.

excessive beeping and clunky touch screen

Drives great. The beeping is out of control. I have turned off all the beeping that's possible to turn off, but everytime I put the vehicle in reverse, it beeps again until I press the button on the dash that turns beeping off. I have to do that every time. I don't need the vehicle to beep at me when I'm trying to get out of a parallel parking space -- I know there's a car near me in both directions. I would like to be able to use the warning lights on the side mirror for traffic in my blind spot but there's no way to have the lights without the beeping, which is distracting and unpleasant, so I've turned them all off. The next car I get will not be a hyundai unless you've resolved the excessive beeping experience. We should be able to turn off any beeping we want to based on our personal preferences. Also the media console is clunky and difficult to use. To go from using apple play to listening to the radio, for example, is multiple steps and, frankly, dangerous. Those moves should be able to happen with one button. And the quality of the AM radio is bad, which makes listening to sports in the car spotty.

My new Ionic 5 has become my favorite EV

I have driven a 2024 Model Y for two years now as my first EV. When it came time for a new vehicle I chose an Ioniq 5 AWD Limited. Although I enjoyed driving the Tesla, I think the Ioniq 5 had surpassed it in many ways. It's just as fast, but the ride and quietness far exceeds the Tesla where I could feel every bump in the road and it had a lot of tire and wind noise. The lane centering (autosteer) in the Tesla is quite cumbersome to use because you have to re-engage it every time you make a lane change which is very tiring on a road trip. Also it tightens up the steering wheel when engaged. With the Ioniq 5 the lane centering is just there in the background and works very well with a light touch on the steering wheel. The other thing that is welcome is not having to use the touchscreen for virtually everything. The wiper controls on the stalk are so nice to have again! All in all the Ioniq 5 is very user friendly, comfortable, and easy to live with.

It's fine. Charging is a nightmare, but I assume that's the case for all non-Tesla.

Like not love

A lovely vehicle with logical quirks that are frustrating. I’ll never make sense of the locking and door opening features. Walk up to the back it opens- sometimes-but the doors stay locked. Walk away from the vehicle it doesn’t auto lock. Huh? And climate controls that make you take your eyes off the road on a small poorly lit panel. How about simple knobs?

Room for improvement

The hardware of the vehicle is nice but where it falls short is on the software. Item settings are not easy to find and updates have actual lost functionality, mainly with the heads up display. The infotainment system is convoluted and difficult to switch between media sources while driving.

2nd Ioniq 5 and even better than the first!

This is my second Ioniq 5. I moved to a 2024 after driving electric BMWs for years. I just upgraded to the 2026 and this one is even better. More powerful, better accessory placement in the cabin, and generally easier to use features.
