Almost Perfect EV

We needed an EV with space, that was stylish and most importantly that wasn't a Tesla. This just about nailed everything! We have the dual motor version and love it.

The only correct choice for an Ioniq 5

I never wanted an EV, but when I wrecked my car, I wanted something that I couldn't really upgrade, relatively new, and decently priced. I bought the I5 as a lease return for only $23,995 at the end of 2025. It's probably the coolest looking car I could find. I have been pleasantly surprised with how easy it is to drive an EV. I go to rally races about seven times each year, with the round trip being around 1,000 miles. The speed on this thing is fantastic, being able to do ~15-80% in almost exactly 15 minutes. My main issues with the car are the rattles. I fixed the hatch rattle with spacers on the sides, but almost exactly one year in, a new one has shown up. I've taken the trunk area apart, shoved rags into the seat belt tensioners, removed one panel so far, and think I may need to contact a dealership at this point. The rattles are maddening! The center console in my car is a bit too tall. I'm not a fan of consoles, and this one can't be removed without taking the car apart. You can't turn off Bluelink (just not subscribe, which I would never since they want access to your personal info and precise location, how you drive the car, and sell it to 3rd parties), can't turn off bluetooth, can't attach "dumb" bluetooth devices (so I can't use my Zune for music), doesn't have an auxiliary port, and has an ALWAYS on front USB port, which just so happens to be the only one for data. I did also need to replace the 12v battery relatively quickly into ownership. The charging indicator was beginning to light up multiple times per week, so because that apparently can cause the dreaded ICCU failure, I preemptively replaced my 12v battery with a sodium ion version. I've probably only seen it charging the 12v less than 10 times since then. The headlights are also pretty lame. Driving in the countryside and woods with brights on only feels about as effective as standard halogens. Software settings, I need to turn off lane keep assist, as it kept trying to pull me into other cars or lanes, which is ironic. It's a very unsafe safety feature. I turned off auto bright lights, as I'm not a child and am able to choose when brights are needed. When the setting is on, your brights will alternate on and off when following someone. Depending on where you are in the country, the driver ahead may pull over and attempt to violently correct your behavior. I needed to turn off the speed reduction on turns while in cruise control. I turned off the front collision avoidance, as it'll slam on the brakes if it thinks you're going to rear end someone. This sounds like a no-brainer, but if someone ahead of you is turning slowly off the road, or it thinks you aren't braking fast enough, it'll brake check the person behind you. Super unsafe. No car is perfect, but the 2024 is likely the best "dumbest" EV you can get before more big brother surveillance showed up in the 2025 and beyond models. There's a zero percent chance I would buy one of the newer cars, despite getting NACS, a bigger battery, and potentially better software.

Love the car

Love my I5. Never had any issues with ICCU. Fun to drive. The negatives are no over the air updates and No self driving. If it had those things I’d say I’m keeping it when my lease is up.

Ioniq5 Limited RWD is a nice car.

The 2024 Ioniq 5 is a very nice car. I have not had any problems with it too date. I only wish it had that rear windshield wiper like the 2025 version. But I can live without it

Want to like it, but too many issues.

I really wanted to love my 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited. When it's working properly, it's a fantastic vehicle. It's comfortable, spacious, enjoyable to drive, and has plenty of great technology. Unfortunately, the ownership experience has been overshadowed by an unacceptable number of mechanical and electrical problems. In less than three years of ownership, I am currently on my fourth 12V battery. The ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) has also been replaced, I've had fuses replaced twice, and I was without the vehicle for an entire week while the air conditioning chiller was replaced. These aren't minor inconveniences. The repeated 12V battery failures have left the vehicle completely undriveable, creating significant disruptions to my schedule. Between these repairs and routine maintenance, the vehicle has been to the dealership approximately 13 times in less than three years. That's simply unacceptable for a vehicle at this price point. What makes this particularly frustrating is that I genuinely enjoy driving the Ioniq 5. When everything works, it's easily one of the most enjoyable vehicles I've owned. However, reliability is a major part of the ownership experience, and I shouldn't have to wonder whether my car is going to start or leave me stranded. I'm giving it three stars because the vehicle itself deserves credit for its design, comfort, performance, and driving experience. Unfortunately, the repeated failures prevent me from rating it any higher. As much as I like the Ioniq 5, these experiences have completely eliminated any desire to purchase it at the end of my lease or consider another Hyundai EV in the future. A great driving experience means very little if you can't depend on the vehicle to work.

So many features

My Ioniq can help me in many ways, including lightly guiding the wheel to the center of the road. As I age, that will help. I am currently 77 years old and in excellent health. I still haven't learned about all of the features.

All that we hoped for and more

Every aspect of our Ionic 5 has been a pleasure to drive and to own. The one thing I wish it had was a rear window wiper. I only miss it because previous cars we owned had one, though it was rarely used.
