Ex-fire chief's vehicle
My Tahoe is a 2010 SSV - Specialty Service Vehicle. A 4X4 fleet vehicle which was used as a marked fire rescue unit, probably a chief's car.
It has low mileage and is in excellent condition. Being a truck owned by a municipality, it was maintained exactly according to manufacturer's standards. It is tight as a drum.
It will tow 7200 pounds, it has automatic 4WD, traction control and large ABS disc brakes.
Additionally it has engine oil, transmission fluid, and brake fluid cooling units that will give it a much longer life than a civilian Tahoe, which is already a very durable vehicle.
I get 10 mpg in city driving - I have never taken it on a freeway for more than a few miles. At speed, the RPMs drop and four of the cylinders shut down allowing the vehicle to cruise on 4 cylinders making highway mileage quite good for a vehicle its size and weight.
It is comfortable and has a lot of room inside. It has a radio/CD player, power locks, power windows, A/C, and that's it - no comfort options - and very few options to go wrong and cost money to repair.
The engine makes 320 horsepower and 335 foot pounds of torque which is more than adequate for a vehicle its size and weight. It is a truck, so the steering is somewhat vague, the ride is on the hard side. Aside from the 6-speed automatic transmission it has manual shift mode, so getting it unstuck is easier than with a normal auto trans vehicle.
I've owned it for 10 months and have had no issues with it. Because it's a fleet vehicle if something does break there are millions of parts out there so repairing it is cheaper than a civilian vehicle.
So far so good.
