4 year old car with major issues
For a little background, we've had two Volvos (2002 s60 and 2007 xc70) and were very happy with them. We still use the 2002 car. Based on our experience and their quality reputation, we bought a 2020 xc 90 Volvo second-hand with 29K miles on it with one owner through a small family-run dealership in October 2023. I love the look, quality and feel of it, however, three months after I purchased it, it began to have engine issues. We took it to a shop that specializes in Volvo (the dealerships had a 4 month waiting period in the Portland area) and it was diagnosed with an exhaust leak (into the cabin) and the estimate to fix it was $4200. I called Volvo of North America to see if it was still under warranty and low and behold the warranty expired 2 months prior. I asked if they would grant me an extended (or factory or campaign) warranty and they wouldn't budge. The onus was on us. I'm now faced with a large mechanic bill and I'm terrified it's going to have further issues since it only has 32K miles on it. Not only that, but I can't drive myself or my family in it until it's fixed since exhaust is leaking into the cabin. I really wish I could go back in time and not buy this car. I am SO disapointed and quite frankly probably will not buy another Volvo product.
