Engine failure at 112,000 miles.
My family was extremely happy with our 2017 Tucson Sport, up until 2 months ago.
We had ran up a lot of highway miles driving back and forth to Florida from New Jersey.
Like my previous vehicles (both Toyota, one ran 270K the other 360K with no major issues), I had expected over 200K miles out of this Hyundai. (especially when they come with a 100K mile warranty)!
At only 112K miles the engine lost compression in 2 out of 4 cylinders and was barely able to make it home.
The dealership stated that it would need to replace the lower half of the engine (short block), and the cost would be about $9,500 and up!
However, the service department was really great and went to bat for me helping to eventually have Hyundai Corporate cover a majority of the costs.
My portion ended up being $1,600.
So not bad for a remanufactured engine swap.
But I would not recommend purchasing a Hyundai product with the 1.4 Liter Turbo engine, until they get these issues worked out.
