Extremely Disappointed with the Reliability and Safety of this vehicle

I purchased a 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid expecting a reliable and safe family vehicle. Unfortunately, my experience has been extremely disappointing. Within approximately 36,000 miles and only 18 months of ownership, the vehicle experienced the same serious powertrain failure three separate times. On each occasion, the engine would not start properly, the vehicle would operate only on the battery, and it would go into limp mode. Each incident occurred while I was driving on a highway, including at highway speeds, which made the situation particularly concerning from a safety standpoint. The vehicle had to be towed each time and remained at the dealership for almost a week during each occurrence. Having the same major problem happen three times on a relatively new vehicle raises serious concerns about the underlying reliability of the vehicle and whether the root cause has actually been resolved. I am especially disappointed because Hyundai advertises a substantial warranty, and I expected a vehicle with this level of warranty coverage to provide dependable transportation. Instead, I have spent significant time dealing with breakdowns, towing, dealership visits, transportation issues, and repeated attempts to resolve the same problem. For me, this is no longer simply an inconvenience—it is a safety and reliability issue. A vehicle that unexpectedly loses normal engine power and enters limp mode while traveling on a highway can put the driver and others on the road at risk. I hope Hyundai takes these repeated failures seriously and provides a permanent resolution. Based on my experience so far, I would strongly encourage potential buyers to research the Santa Fe Hybrid's powertrain reliability and consider these issues carefully before purchasing.

Awesome but not as good as our 2025

The vehicle is comfortable, easy to drive, and has all the bells and whistles, but a few bugs. Our 2025 was perfect, but the 2026 is slightly off from perfect. The drive assist is not as responsive as the 2025, and it waits too long to assist with centering the car back in the lane. You will drive on the middle line before it corrects. Once, we had a problem turning the cruise control on. It stated, " All parameters have not been met for cruise". We pulled over, turned it off, and started again, and it corrected. Overall, it is still a great automobile, and we call it our Raptor because you are sitting in a cockpit to drive. Still a great car. The 2025 is better

I love it!

There's a couple of querks about the vehicle for instance; locking and unlocking. I have changed the settings but when I walk up it only unlocks front doors, which drives me crazy. I have changed settings to unlock all doors. The fingerprint doesn't work so then you have to put in a pin Everytime you start the car, it's also very annoying. lastly the charger is great except it gets beat down by the sun so your phone overheats while on the charger.

This car is beautiful inside and out. I have very few “complaints” and none of them would make me buy something different when it’s time. I get compliments on it almost weekly. Friends and family constantly comment on how comfortable it is. It’s quiet; it’s good on gas; the audio quality is excellent. The hatch sometimes doesn’t open - major nuisance. The keyless entry (where your phone’s proximity and your hand on the door handle tell the car to unlock) is handy BUT more than occasionally doesn’t work. Standing in the rain trying to get into your car and having it tell you know is rage-inducing. The Apple CarPlay is also… buggy. It disconnects occasionally - also a nuisance and dangerous when you’re using Google or Apple Maps. Finally, this vehicle should have two charging pads. Instead, it has one, and where the second would be is just a pad that lacks the “charging pad” icon. It’s a major bummer that Hyundai cheaper out on this on a $60k vehicle.

Glad I bought a Santa Fe

For under 50 K out the door I got a 2025 Santa Fe Calligraphy Hybrid. Big car! Holds a ton of stuff. Impressive gas mileage - 35-36 around town and low 30s on the highway. Safety features galore. Large screen makes viewing what's on it easy. One issue that Hyundai should address is the AC controls. They are hard to read and change when moving. Dangerous to do so. After 18000 miles have had no maintenance issues.

Family of 4 (w/ small children)

We have mixed reviews. We love the stylishness, the ride, storage space and the gas mileage. We don't love the passenger space for families with car seats. My 2 year old always had his feet up against the passenger side seat or the passenger is pushed forward and upright to avoid squishing him. My infants car seat fits snug against the driver seat when I'm driving. (I'm 5'10). The back seat is useless to me because I can't get back there without removing car seats and bases. Also, getting into the back seat requires you to climb over the middle seat like you have to in a coupe. It would be great if the seat would flip up against the front seats and allow a passenger better access to the rear. Finally, Our car dies if it isn't driven on a regular basis. Hyundai service center told me that if I don't drive the car every few days then the car battery will die due to its small capacity. Therefore never leave the car at the airport for vacation or you'll be stranded or needing to jump it on return. One other wish list... a removal middle console. With 2 small children my wife has had to hop over the console on many occasions to calm a screaming child. Luckily my wife is short and agile.

The vehicle is barely alright. The cruise control is horrendous, hate it. The attempt at “auto steer” is very erratic.

Have had sensor issues. Because we live on a gravel road, it throws the sensors off I believe they should be better protected from the elements on the inside of the back bumper. We’ve never had any issues with any other vehicle.
