Overall awesome EV, I enjoy driving it but there are some drawbacks.
I’ve had my car just over 2 years. This is my 2nd EV, had a Nissan Leaf previously also a great car. I’ll list the things I enjoy about my IONIQ 5 first then go on to the things I don’t like.
Snazzy looking vehicle with a wonderful color. I have the digital teal, love it and get compliments often.
I have the rear wheel drive because it got more miles to the charge, I’ve been very pleased with it. In general it handles great, it is sporty and responsive, as with all EVs you can’t beat the rapid acceleration. I really enjoy driving it. I’ve had no trouble in the snow though here in MN we haven’t had much snow the last two years so I feel the jury is still out.
Great charging experience. I typically charge at home in a regular outlet but when I travel the quick charging up to 80% in 15 - 20 minutes is wonderful. I’m excited to get the new adapter so that my charging options while traveling will be expanded.
Pretty comfortable interior, I appreciate all my information while driving is right in front of me (even though there are some issues with viewing see below) and the other screen in the middle is for infotainment.
I feel like there are enough places for storing things throughout the vehicle.
Good interior color options and ability to change ambient lights to suit your interest.
Nice that I could get a trailer hitch and it doesn’t have any issue towing the things I need to tow.
Truly overall a great car and a good value, I’ve enjoyed having it.
Cons: mostly little things but enough of them I am not sure I will get the IONIQ 5 again even though I like it.
No rear windshield wiper. The salesperson said this wasn’t needed as the slope of the window encouraged water to slide away but this is completely false. Even with RainEx on the window not having a wiper is a huge detriment especially in the winter. Add to the no wiper that the rear window is tinted and for me it creates a dangerous visibility issue.
Tinted side and rear windows. Hate this as it really decreases overall visibility of the area surrounding the vehicle and good visibility of approaching vehicles especially at night. This will be a deal breaker in my next car.
I appreciate the screen with driving info in front of the steering wheel but positioning of the information on that screen is terrible. I cannot get the steering wheel height in a comfortable position based on my seat height preference and still see all the info. In my opinion the most important information for me to see all the time is my driving speed, what the speed limit is and what gear I am in. If I have the steering wheel in a comfortable position it covers that information and I have to tip my head to see it; not safe! It should be straight forward to get that information as well as miles left on charge, etc into the visible all the time area.
Rear passenger seat’s headrest are not removable! Again for me this is a real detriment. Only occasionally do I have passengers in the back seats so more important to me is increasing my visibility range around the car by removing those headrests; there are even fewer blindspots this way. My dog rides in the rear seat area and she doesn’t need headrests, make them removable. I can easily put them in when I have an extra passenger.
The height of the arm rest on the door and the one in the middle are not at the same height. This is especially noticeable on a long trip. It makes for an uncomfortable off kilter ride.
The front headrests tip your head into a forward head posture and cannot be tilted to make a more neutral better for your posture position.
ipedal mode does not stay engaged when you put the car in reverse. This was quite a shock the first time it happened as in the Leaf when the epedal was on it did stay when you switched gears to reverse. I found this very useful.
The rearview mirror changes at night to a darker mode, making nighttime visibility less especially with the tinted windows. There isn’t a way to disengage this.
