Too many repairs

In less than 60.000 miles this car required too many visits to the mechanic. Numerous problems in electrical systems as well as brakes wearing out too quickly. German engineering compounds the costs of repairs.

Might as well be a lemon

I am the second owner. The first flag should have been that the last owner sold it less than 2 years and 20k miles. The vehicle had several service appointments around 15k - "shift linkage repaired" and "front exhaust pipe replaced". The second flag: Four months after I got it, it was with the dealer for service for a month because the EPC light kept turning on and they couldn't get the fuel line part to fix it. They said it would become eligible for VW buy back and VW would reach out. They didn't. When I reached out to them, the dealer suddenly got the part and returned the car. The factory tires only survived for about 45k miles and then the steel belts started popping one after another. The third flag: At 67k, the EPC light starts coming on again. This time they say it's a fuel injector. At 81k, it's the check engine light, but similar behavior. Cylinder 2 misfire code, but they say there's no misfire it just needs a software update. Since VW has some of the lowest warranty mileage - 72k - they try and charge you for the software update! Looks like it's even worse on newer models! 50k now! It also turns out VW has a bunch of electronics hooked up to their 12v batteries like a hybrid or EV even though it's neither. Not possible to do it yourself or the vehicle immobilizes. $450 for a simple battery replacement! I cannot recommend this car or brand to anyone.

Comfortable and reliable. But surprisingly poorly designed.

This car has aerodynamic issues resulting in problems driving with windows open and extremely poor gas mileage (average 14-19 MPG over three years). It is noted to handle poorly in emergency maneuvers, which I can definitely confirm (top heavy and poor suspension). The design does not seem suitable for New England winters: The wipers are recessed and cannot be propped up before snow/ice storms. This results in the wipers being frozen under the lip of the hood; Aerodynamics result in the rear window getting snowed over rapidly (yes, there is a rear wiper. But expect to use it constantly in rain/ice/snow). I am a ski patroller and mountain search & rescue worker. I have had issues in winter weather when I need performance and reliability. But... the interior is large, seats passengers comfortably, and is quite nice.

My favorite car to drive, so far!

I have had this vehicle for almost 3 years, and it's still fun to drive! Splurging for all the high tech options was well worth it! I came from a base-model sedan that barely had electric windows, so to get to use all of these bells and whistles is a big adjustment, but beyond worth it!

The most amount of car for a least amount of money

Basic trim is spacious, 2nd row is movable, 3rd row is big enough for adults, AC in the back, reverse cam, Android and Apple play, 4 cylinder with a turbo - alive but economical. If you need spacious and cheap, look no further....

2018 VW Atlas

Got this thing brand spanking new and 14 months later and 52k miles odo still no issues whatsoever . Great for towing a boat and entire family. I abused this car so much and it just keeps on ticking with no issues.

Basically perfect

Plenty of room for my gigantic car seat. Enterior reminds me of an USS Enterprise grade starship. Tons of room and it's like the TARDIS, bigger on the inside. Plus amazing warranty. I spent two months looking at cars and finally this one checked all my boxes. It looks like a grand Cherokee and an explorer had a baby. I love my new adventure tank!

Have had problems, original battery died car towed to dealer for replacement. Blind spot system stopped working part was ordered and replaced, then majority of tech features stopped working had to have a wheel aliment. Atlas key fob batteries had to be replaced after 9 months then again one after less then a month, then had to have another wheel aliment three weeks later the Atlas was still pulling to the right. We are getting very frustrated with the Atlas.
