2005 Jaguar XJR. Too bad Jaguar changed it!
About 6 months ago I purchased a 2005 Jaguar XJR with about 85K on the clock. Although I was reluctant to buy a Jaguar with this kind of mileage, I knew that this car had been built during the time that Ford owned Jaguar (another unfortunate thing...the sale of Jaguar by Ford). Since buying the car, with the exception of a somewhat droopy headliner (poor adhesive choice), the car has been fantastic. For the average layperson, this car looks like a true luxury road car sleeper. But whenever you need that extra punch, the Supercharger kicks in and provides a lot of controlled acceleration.
The ride is superb, but not too soft. The handling is tight for such a large car and the braking is outstanding. Seat comfort is also at the top of the list. Now, for those of you who want a highway floater, this is not your car. You will feel some of the road, responsive steering and a minimal body roll for a luxury cruiser.
Let's talk about amenities; first the Ford influence really helps with serviceability and reliability. Since owning the car I have done nothing but routine service. Most of which I will perform myself, but there are plenty of good Jaguar technicians at both independent shops and Jaguar dealers around the country who are a brotherhood and understand the nature of typical Jaguar owners. That being said, these cars require maintenance, but will last a very long time if you give them proper care. This particular car is equipped with many standard features like a rear power window shade, heated seats and steering wheel, navigation, adaptive cruise control (my personal favorite), CD changer, great Alpine sound system, leather and wood galore and some of the best fitting seats found standard in any car I have ever owned.
Jags are a great looking car as well and the XJR just looks that much better with the color coded nose, tasteful badges and limited chrome accents.
This is by far the best used car value I've ever experienced. Buyer beware; I always look for service history. Carfax does not do an adequate job. If you are going to buy a pre-owned car of any kind, get the service history or keep looking!
