Don’t buy if you live in Sacramento.
We purchased the Nexo primarily for its features as well as the reduced environmental impact. What we did not know, is that at least on of those features would not work at all. We made an inquiry regarding the reliability of fuel stations in our area (Sacramento) and we’re assured that they’re all great and that more stations were being planned in addition to the three currently built. The reality is this—we’ve had to wait weeks to get fuel because all three stations were down at once. Often, only one station is operable, and during that time, the wait for fueling has exceeded six hours due to the line of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles that are running on empty. We’ve also had to fuel up in Concord which was a two hour trip out and back.
In terms of servicing, the team is fine. However, we’ve asked for specific issues to be addressed and they have not been. When bringing the Nexo in for a recall (after having spoken to the service team by phone about the repairs), we were told that it would take upwards of a month to complete the work and that no, they had no loaners available. Hyundai does reimburse the cost of a rental vehicle when your primary vehicle is being serviced, but the cost of paying out of pocket for a month of rentals can be prohibitive to many folks.
The Nexo concept and intent behind its engineering is exceptional, the reality leaves much to be desired.
