Very Unreliable Experience With 2025 Ioniq 5
Coming from a Tesla, the Ioniq 5 is a mixed bag — and unfortunately, reliability kills the deal.
Performance is solid, software is decent, and native NACS support is a major plus. Wireless Apple CarPlay works flawlessly, and the heat pump is quick and efficient in both heating and cooling.
But that’s where the positives end.
The Hyundai E-GMP platform is deeply unreliable. Within two months of ownership, I’ve had multiple DTC error codes that left the car parked at the dealership for days. And the dealership experience? Somehow worse than Tesla’s — which says a lot. Customer service has been unhelpful, apathetic, and slow.
Hyundai has made zero progress addressing the widely known ICCU failure issues that affect Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis EVs — problems that have been well-documented since 2022. It’s clear they’re not prioritizing a fix.
I took a gamble, and I’m grateful I only leased it. I will never consider another E-GMP-based EV until Hyundai gets serious about reliability and customer support.
