I finally found a reliable, honest auto service center where I don't feel I'm getting taken for a ride, Smithwest Service Center INC.. I have been going to this location for about a year now. I have an EcoDiesel, so there aren't too many shops that will even look at it. Not only will this shop look at it, but they have been spot on when it comes to diagnosing the issue and repairing the issue. And if something goes wrong with their repair (such in the case of mine where a water pump that they installed began to leak), there was no questions asked, they just took the truck in and took care of it.

This is what makes this shop so good. About 2 years ago I had a water pump failure. I had brought my truck into a local mechanic who made a repair. The repair came with a 1 year warranty. About 8 months into it, unaware to me, the pump began to leak again (I believe I was getting some error codes). I knew something wasn't right, and I brought the truck to Smithwest Service Center INC. as I had a bad experience with a diesel shop a few months back over a cooler. Smithwest identified the leak. I brought the vehicle back to the original shop who did the water pump and they just gave me a bad attitude and made me feel guilty that I was bringing the truck back for a warranty claim, and kept alleging the pump wasn't leaking and wasn't the issue. I explained this to Angelo the owner of Smithwest Service Center and he captured a video and photos showing the leak. I told Angelo just to fix it as I didn't want to deal with the other shop and their attitude. Angelo fixed it. About a year into it, the pump began to leak again! I brought it back to Angelo at Smithwest Service Center. He confirmed the leak, noted that the part was defective, took the truck back, replaced it with a different brand water pump, and that was it. No guilt, no hassle, no problem. I felt bad and even offered him a few dollars for doing all the work again, he refused to take it and explained proudly how his work is fully guaranteed and warrantied.

Fast forward, I got a new error code, issue with the Manifold. I bring the truck in to Angelo. I already knew what the issue was because I ran the codes myself and new this was a common issue with this engine. It was soot that built up over time effecting the swirl valves. This is a common issue with the EcoDiesel and the environmental regulations/control that requires the engine to perform a certain way. Angelo goes through the entire system just to make sure its not just a bad sensor or a secondary issue. He confirmed that it was the manifold, and it would need to be replaced. I felt my truck with 180k miles has reached the end of its lifespan, so I was on the fence of making the repair. He did some research and pulled up a list of the 10 most common problems with the EcoDiesel and saw that I had replaced/fixed most of them, and the other potential problems didn't seem to be an issue with my truck. Thus, this repair would likely make sense as I could probably get another year or two out of this truck. I can spend a few thousand now, or $30-60k for another truck..

He quoted me a price. He starts the job. After they get the manifold off they see that the soot and crap that was located in my intake, that leads to the manifold was solidified and built up to the degree where it couldn't just be brushed clean. He made a judgment call of not just replacing the Manifold because he knew that the crap in my intake would likely just get blown into the new manifold. They literally kept the truck an extra few days and soaked the intake to loosen the soot and was eventually able to scrape and clean it. A repair that should have taken about a day or two, got tied up for several days, but it was done right. I got the bill, and it was exactly what he quoted me. He acknowledged that it took them more time then he expected and quoted, but he wanted to make sure the job was done right so that I could use this truck moving forward without having a reoccurring issue or possibly shortening the lifespan of the new manifold.

I am appreciative of solid, reputable good local businesses. I model myself after companies like this, as this is how I like to run AllPro. It's not about being the cheapest (because they're not) or the least expensive, its about charging a fair price but providing exceptional service and understanding the needs of your customer. Kudo's to Smithwest Service Center INC..
