We're having a great time with friends at a airbnb in Sedona - it's the day before thanksgiving and we start up the car to go out and get a number of error codes and flashing engine warning light, and "reduced power mode". It's a brand new car (6 months old) we'd driven 600 miles to Sedona - I call toyota and they said free towing to the closest toyota dealer, though that was in Flagstaff an hour away and not till later in the day. I made those arrangements and was figuring I'd need to ride with them and leave the car (their next appt. not till after thanksgiving) and get a rental.
So - in the meantime I called Red Rock auto center that I find nearby on google, and Bill said they could look at it right away, though no guarantees they could read the toyota codes to figure out the problem.
I got the car to limp there, and they immediately connected the diagnostic device, while mentioning it was probably from a small animal - sure enough they open the hood and remove a cover and one side of a set of 3 wires were gone - not just gnawed through, the couple inches of wire had been eaten!
They checked out the rest of the car and only had to replace those wires.
We made sure to park in the garage the rest of the visit.
