Fun fun fun!
Quick Review: My MX-5 Miata is an absolute joy to drive. Reliable, efficient, fun.
My 2017 Miata RF is a great vehicle. It's my second Miata. I previously had a 2016 Sport with the classic soft top. The RF has a few more bells and whistles, most notably the retractable hard top.
The car is small, but at 5'6", that is not an issue for me. The interior is simple and clean, but it has everything you need including a good sized entertainment screen which can be controlled by touch or by a knob on the console.
The 2.0L Skyactiv engine provides enough power to spin the rear wheels and get you where you need to go while getting excellent gas mileage. I get around high 30s-40 mpg on the highway.
The 6-speed manual gearbox is far and away the best transmission I've ever driven. It is so smooth and extremely responsive. Wouldn't be too hard to learn stick on this car.
While you won't win any top-speed races in this car, you'll out-perform anything else on the road when it comes to cornering. The Miata handles like a go kart. The suspension is crisp and the car hugs the road like it belongs on a racetrack.
The exterior design is also a thing of beauty. The rear fascia has a lot of curves which come together at the circular tail lights. The angles lines coming down the rear of the hard top on the RF look like something from the Batmobile. The side profile is just stunning. However, the front fascia is the design masterpiece of this vehicle. The front somehow looks sharp and mean while simultaneously keeping with the natural curves of the rest of the car. The angled fog lights add to the badass look.
Nobody buys a Miata to haul stuff in, so don't expect a lot of storage space. The trunk can fit a carry on sized suitcase with room for a few more small items. This car will fit your groceries as long as you don't have a bunch of junk in the trunk.
Overall, a great car that I have even used in Upstate, NY winters with a great set of snow tires. This is a fun car, and it's more practical than people give it credit for.
