Beautiful, Comfortable, and Seriously Unreliable

I wanted to love this vehicle. The Tucson Plug-In Hybrid Limited is comfortable, stylish, spacious, and packed with features. Unfortunately, my ownership experience has been dominated by repeated electrical and electrical-system-related failures within the first few months of ownership. For a new vehicle, the reliability has been unacceptable. My Experience With This Vehicle I purchased my 2026 Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid Limited new because I genuinely believed I was getting a reliable, efficient, well-equipped SUV that I could keep for years. Unfortunately, my experience has been very different. Within days of purchasing the vehicle, I experienced a complete electrical failure that left me needing roadside assistance. The vehicle experienced additional electrical shutdowns shortly afterward, requiring further roadside assistance and dealership visits. The vehicle was eventually diagnosed with a loose negative battery terminal. Unfortunately, the electrical problems did not end there. I later experienced cluster blackouts and HUD issues in the following month, which further reduced my confidence in the vehicle. After two trips to the dealership seeking a true diagnosis, I was repeatedly told that the issue could not be replicated. Two days later, on May 21, 2026, the dealer finally agreed that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and asked me to leave it at the dealership for additional diagnosis and repair. The dealership ultimately identified a wiring harness issue after the vehicle had been on the lot for five weeks. At that point, I had owned my brand-new vehicle for only a short period of time, yet I had already experienced multiple electrical failures, multiple roadside assistance events, repeated dealership visits, and an extended loss of use of the vehicle. While my Tucson was in the shop, I was provided an Elantra sedan as a loaner rather than a comparable SUV. I appreciate being provided transportation, but it was still a significant inconvenience to lose access to the vehicle I had specifically purchased and paid for. What is most disappointing is that I purchased a new vehicle specifically to have the confidence and reliability that comes with buying new. Instead, I have had to repeatedly question whether my vehicle will start, whether its electrical systems will function properly, and whether another issue will occur. The Tucson itself is a beautiful vehicle. I love the design, technology, comfort, features, and overall concept of the Plug-In Hybrid. That is what makes this experience particularly frustrating. I wanted to love this vehicle, and I still believe the Tucson has the potential to be an excellent SUV. However, reliability is the foundation of a good ownership experience. A brand-new vehicle should not require this level of troubleshooting, roadside assistance, dealership intervention, and extended time out of service within its first few months of ownership. This experience has significantly affected my confidence in the vehicle and in Hyundai. Based on my personal ownership experience, I cannot currently recommend the 2026 Tucson Plug-In Hybrid to another customer.

My new Sweet Pea

This car is the most amazing car I have driven in my lifetime and I am 79 years old. It has all the bells and whistles that these modern cars have and it is sleek and beautiful as well. I love the colors mixed and matched throughout and it is very quiet. I love how it starts up immediately and tells you if it is ready to drive. How cool is that? I love everything about it. I totaled my other car by hitting a deer and didn't have an idea of what I wanted to replace it with but the minute I sat in this car, I was hooked. I never looked at another one. Bought it the same day as I drove it on a test drive. It is perfect in every way.

Good value, but…

I was probably spoiled by the RAV4 Prime. I wanted the new 2026 but it was over budget so I settled for the much more affordable Tucson phev. If I hit the gas pedal too hard, then the gas engine kicks in. The RAV4 has much more power and torque without needing gas.

Surprised and impressed

After driving an Audi SUV (full electric, and then a Plug in) for a few years, I am impressed with my Plug In Tucson. I love all the safety fixtures, how comfortable it is. The AC works great, and I love how I can turn the AC on from my phone, prior to getting in my car. Very important when dealing with summers in TX. I have no complaints about this car.

Great car so far. Very comfortable, handles and rides well, and very economical. For day-to-day driving, I charge it from my solar panels and thus spend zero on gas.

Lemon law car

Front side and rear sensors malfunctioning to point of endangerment. Emergency brakes come on when not supposed to slammed on brakes on freeway. Sensors do not detect correctly and I have actually driven this car less than 10 times. It has been at roseville hyindai more than I have had it.

We Love our Tucson PHEV!

We enjoy the best of both worlds and love how little gas we are using daily and weekly. A charge gets me to and from work and only have to use gas for a few miles if at all. Also, the car looks great and drives great. It feels solid and I can feel the AWD. We are very happy with our purchase.

Car drives well but battery health at 30% and dealer can’t help

Had the car for 2 months and it depicts a really poor battery health and trouble charging on the lvl 1 charger. Put in a case but haven’t heard back with Hyundai since the dealer hasn’t been helpful

Overall, a very good plug-in hybrid. I love all the safety features. Very comfy ride. Lots of space. My only complaint is the the charger that comes with the only charges at the rate of about one hour per mile (ie, a full charge from 0 to 100 takes about 30 hours (for about 30 hours of electric driving). Chargepoint stations are scarce in my area. I therefore bought a Level 2 charger for my garage . Finally. because the plug-in Tucson is new, sales and service people can’t always answer questions without doing research

Almost perfect but some short falls

This car has almost everything I'd want in a vehicle: hybrid power-train that's plug-in rechargable. It has air vents for the rear seats, and Apple CarPlay works. But there are a few short falls that seem unnecessary: 1) No rear facing virtual enging sound system speaker. The sound level when the car is reversing under EV power is stupid. I worry about disturbing my neighbors when backing into my garage at night. 2) The automatic collision avoidance system is too harsh. I have had a couple of incidents already where it felt like I would get rear ended because the braking action is so sudden and strong. There is no way to turn it off. The system is myopitc in that it only see what's in front. It can't tell the difference between a wall or a car stopped to allow a pedestrian to pass (and will start moving again soon). No easy way to turn it off. 3) The steering always feels like it is being stopped too soon. For a vehcile this size, I feel like it's turning radius the same as a car 50% longer. 4) The center console spot for where a smart phone would rest is not thermally conductive and consequently lets my iPhone get super-hot. Often it feels like there is a heat source in the center console somewhere.
