my ride or die
this is my second element. It has a cult falling for a reason. I've gone from single, 20 yo, frequent camper, to small business. owner, to 40yo married home renovator with a dog and kayaks and demo projects. this car does everything. It fits a full size mattress topper in the back for beach camping or music festivals. I put Astroturf in the back for my dog and it's just fun and feel amazing on your feet. I surprise people all the time with what I can fit in it. It's just big and roomy for a tall person. even the arc of the glass on the windshield makes it feel like a picture window versus being strapped into a spaceship. I love being able to place my purse in the middle without knocking my elbows into everything. it feels so roomy and the turn radius is better than a unicycle. The doors are amazing for groceries or dogs or just opening it all up to clean and vacuum. I get an undercoat twice a year because the only thing that really takes them down is rust on the rockers and rims. They used to be ugly 20 years ago, but nowadays, this is actually the look and I feel like they look modern now. Even more stylish than the fancy Toyotas and jeeps. Honda says that they will never bring it back and I think that is the dumbest thing. Everyone wants to make the same model SUV because it's the top seller for each brand. But they don't understand just how much variety actually sustains brands in a long run. flooding market with a single top seller version of any item always crashes and burns, no pun intended. They said it was a huge flop, and it was at the tim, but really it was just too ahead of its time. It's built up momentum to have a huge comeback. Like a cult movie that flops at the box office but the 20 year later sequel breaks records. I have people ask me about it or come up to me and talk to me about it in parking lots very often. People are very element curious and they always say "man I wish I had gotten one "or "I miss mine so much. Nothing comes close." I will keep this car for as long as I possibly can and I'd rather put $10,000 into keeping it going then $10,000 into a stupid new generic SUV. literally if I won the lottery and get any car in the world, I would just pimp this ride. I have never met somebody that had a Honda element that said they regretted it or they didn't like it. I've only heard stories of people who said they didn't like them until they drove one or had one and then they fell in love and could never go back. only other downsides, I can possibly think of that stink? You can't roll down back windows, but in exchange for being able to fit a washer, dryer, camp very comfortably, latch a hammock to it from a tree, not have to walk around the back door to get something, throw a couple mountain bikes, or a couple kayaks in, put the back seats in and bring your friends for a ride, dance with your hands over your head as a passenger, look up at tall Mountain scenery without obstruction, not worry about spills or stains, parallel park on a dime, convert it to anything you can imagine included small businesses? Sure, I'll give up power rear windows, and a little more power and goinguphill. this car has helped so many people through so many transitions in their lives. They are fools to not make it again. Even if they think they'll lose money on it, they'll earn so many loyal Honda customers through it over a lifetime. So yeah if you're thinking about getting one, get it, look out for rust on the rockers, get undercoats, and know that bushings and swaybar links are probably gonna be a little bit more often repair if in the countryside, but those are cheap enough, know the engine will go forever and know that there are so many of them out there for parts that you can get major repairs for cheaper than other cars. Oh, and if you see another one in a parking lot, you have to park next to it. It's an unwritten rule.
