regret purchase
I regret having purchased the Ford Transit Vans, I have three of them. All of them have the brakes need to be replaced about 30,000 miles. This is not just pads, but rotors as well. The brakes are not heavy duty enough for the intended use of the vehicles as fleet vehicles. I am comparing them to the six Chevy vans we have used for 30 years that have the same weight ratings and designed for the same type of use. The Chevy van brake pads last much longer, and the rotors do not need to be replaced every time the pads are replaced. I also have had 2 of the three vehicles have bolts break on the exhaust manifolds in the Ford Transits, not so on the Chevy vans. I have had the turbos fail on the Ford transit vans, causing the motor to need to be replaced. For those two reasons, the repairs have been very costly and I can only expect the repairs to be ongoing as so far there has been repeat repairs needed for the same reasons at about the same milage. I purchased the Ford Transits because at the time Lennox had an agreement with Ford to sell their vans at a reduced price to Lennox HVAC dealers, not so with Chevy. I wish I had paid the full price of about $6,000 more on the Chevy product, the repair costs have certainly eaten up the savings at this point, and I have no hope the repairs will diminish. As far as I know there are no fixes for the repeat problems. I remember my father having Ford pickup trucks when I was in high school, and they were tough trucks. Hence I was not reticent to purchase some of the Ford product for our fleet, but as these vans age there are issues we never had with the Chevy product. Stanley Johnson
