Taste of the EV life without the range anxiety
Love my volt! Really love the EV drive's fast acceleration between 0-30 (like all EVs ,they have immediate access to max torque from the get go, no revving up needed) so I can typically weave in-out of traffic with ease. It's like I'm driving a sports car. I've also smoked most others at red lights since by the time a regular gas engine car clears the intersection, I've already merged into the lane ahead of them! Freeway-wise, the 0-60 time is by measurements about 7.6 seconds, which is close to what Car and Driver rates it at: 7.5 seconds. Much faster than the Prius and Prius Prime which take 10+ seconds.
When I finally run out of EV range, the gas motor transitions on without much fanfare. Sure, I notice it, but its lighter than a gear shift in a typical automatic transmission car. I don't sweat burning maybe a 1/5 gallon of gas on my typical 65 miles roundtrip commute cause I'm still minimizing my gas consumption--energy independence! I can use electric or gasoline, whichever is cheaper! Since I use up all my EV range everyday, I spend $1.90 / day to charge it. I typically go 1200 miles before needing to fill up my gas tank, so roughly once per month I fill it up for my daily 65 mile commute.
One thing that will annoy some: it can get very quiet in the car that you notice tire noise more. I plan on getting quieter tires when the OEM tires wear-out. However, the Volt is incredibly quiet! Feels like I'm in a high end luxury car at times with how quiet it is.
