Didn't Live Up To Expectations
It all began in October 2024. Being a follower of the Magic Mechanic Radio Show, we decided to call in about a particular problem we were having starting up our truck. Larry Perry suggested we call a contact of his who could actually come to us and check out our situation. That sounded good since we lived two counties away. I called the number provided and was connected with the location on Lee Rd, Orlando (30 mi one way via I-4). I was informed contrary to the show conversation that they don't come to you, you have to go to them. If anyone knows that roadway like I did after commuting it for over 21-years, it wasn't overjoyed by the prospect. Well, my wife and I made the trip caravan-style, November 4, with her following in our second car, a compact that I couldn't adjust the seat to drive, only she could drive it (this important for later). We got there and there was a diagnostic fee of over $110. We left the truck for a couple of days. By the 6th we were informed the work was done. We once again made the 60 total miles trip to retrieve our truck. They said the starting problem didn't present itself under their inspection, but a wiring harness that looked burned was replaced. The total bill was $442.93. This would've been fine but days later, when my wife was in ICU in Ormond Beach the truck wouldn't start. For over 10 days when I had to drive to the hospital to be with my wife, I had to jump start the truck to get it going. When I had the opportunity, I contacted the Magic Mechanic location to explain there was a problem, the truck wasn't fixed. I was told that I could bring the truck back and let them work on it some more. How would I get back with my wife still in ICU? I asked about a loner vehicle. One wasn't available. Instead, it was suggested I rent a car. At this point, I told them I wasn't comfortable with returning the vehicle and getting a rental. I asked if I could get a partial refund on the total bill, since the problem appeared to be unresolved. I was told that wasn't possible. They wouldn't work with me. As a result, I continued jump starting my truck so that I could be with my wife and eventually get home before Thanksgiving. In the meantime, I took my vehicle to a local business to see if the starting issue could be figured out. Through a process of elimination and further testing, it was determined that my truck had a bad battery. The problem with starting my truck was solved for a fraction of what I had already paid by replacing the battery. After all of this, I can't really give much of a rating on the work of Magic Mechanic or the radio show.
