My husband and I have taken our truck to Smiley’s three different times, and not once have they actually fixed the issues we brought it in for. The visit on 11/10/2025 was the final straw — and our invoices prove everything.
We rely on this truck for our business. We guide hunting clients out of it, and at the time we had 12 clients in camp. This truck isn’t optional — it is essential.
To avoid disrupting our work, we strategically dropped the truck off before a five-day trip, told them exactly what dates we’d be gone, and told them multiple times that we needed the truck back the day we returned. We even emphasized that we were dropping it off early so they would have plenty of time to work on it.
They kept it for two and a half full weeks, barely touched it, and told us every other day that they’d “know something by the end of the day.”
They never did.
When we returned and asked why nothing had been done, their excuse was:
“We didn’t know when you were getting back.”
We had told them the date repeatedly.
It got so ridiculous that our friend had to physically go in to check on it. They told him they were “really busy,” and he said, “Well, it’s first come, first serve, right?” They had no answer.
On the 11/10/2025 invoice, Smiley’s charged us $326.88 for:
• Fel-Pro Engine Oil Pan Gasket Set (Lower)
• A “Full Synthetic Oil Change”
• 5 additional quarts of oil
• Labor for “customer states has braking issue”
• Labor for “when pressing brakes to put in gear it makes a noise”
• “OIL PAN GASKET – Remove & Replace – Diesel, 4WD, lower, w/o Skid Plate” for $180.50
They originally said the issue was the brake booster, claimed they were ordering parts, then changed their story and said it was actually the oil pan gasket.
Here’s where the receipts expose everything:
❗ Three days later, on 11/13/2025, we went to Strickland Brothers.
Within five minutes, they found:
✔️ Brake master cylinder leaking
✔️ Brake booster needs replacement (the original part Smiley’s claimed was bad)
✔️ Brake system needs to be bled
✔️ OIL PAN GASKET IS STILL LEAKING — meaning Smiley’s either didn’t replace it or did it incorrectly
And here’s the biggest red flag:
⚠️ Why did we need another oil change three days later?
Smiley’s claims they changed the oil on 11/10.
But Strickland had to do another oil change on 11/13.
If Smiley’s actually replaced the oil pan gasket, they had to drain the oil to do it.
So why wasn’t the oil fresh?
Why was the oil pan gasket still leaking?
Why did a brand-new oil change need to be redone?
The only explanations are:
• They didn’t change the gasket,
• They didn’t change the oil,
• They didn’t refill it properly, or
• They did the work so poorly it failed immediately.
Either way — what did we actually pay for?
Smiley’s wasted our time, left our brakes unsafe, left our oil system leaking, ignored our work schedule, and gave excuse after excuse while our business suffered.
Bottom line:
We paid Smiley’s across multiple visits, dropped the truck off early to give them time, told them the exact date we needed it, and still got the truck back unfixed. Another shop proved the work was incomplete, incorrect, or not done at all. This feels like negligence, carelessness, and a complete disregard for our livelihood.
I would never recommend this shop for anything — especially not a vehicle your safety or business depends on.
