Complaint Details:
At the beginning of January, I brought my vehicle to Westside Automotive Repair Shop due to a persistent hesitation issue. The shop diagnosed the problem as requiring two ignition coils and other miscellaneous tune-up services, providing an initial estimate of approximately $1400. This estimate was deemed excessively high.
I authorized the shop to contact my warranty company for coverage approval. The warranty company covered approximately $700 of the expenses, and I negotiated the remaining balance down to $350, which included my $100 deductible.
Upon receiving my vehicle a week and a half later, I noticed a persistent shaking. Initially, I attributed this to the vehicle sitting idle for an extended period at the shop. However, within 3-4 weeks, the original hesitation issue resurfaced.
I promptly returned the vehicle to Westside Automotive Repair Shop. The following day, I was informed that a third ignition coil had failed within the short timeframe since the initial repairs. The owner, Chris, stated he had suspected an additional underlying issue during the initial service but could not definitively diagnose it.

Crucially, I contacted my warranty company who confirmed that the mechanic did indeed inform them of a potential additional issue during the initial service. However, because the issue was not definitively diagnosed, the warranty company did not authorize further repairs at that time. This information directly contradicts the shop's position that the second coil failure was an unrelated, unforeseen event. This admission by the shop to the warranty company indicates they were aware of a problem that was not resolved in the initial repair.
The shop provided a new estimate of approximately $300 for the subsequent repairs. My warranty company covered approximately $185, leaving me responsible for $121 plus taxes which included another $100 deductible.
My Grievances:
Suspected Pre-Existing Issue and Warranty Company Confirmation: The mechanic's admission of suspecting an unresolved issue during the initial service, and the confirmation of this information by my warranty company, raises serious concerns about the thoroughness and accuracy of the original diagnosis and repairs. The fact that they communicated this to the warranty company proves that they were aware of the possibility of further problems.
Recurring Coil Failure: The rapid failure of a third coil shortly after the initial replacement indicates potential issues with the quality of parts or the overall effectiveness of the repairs.
Unjustified Second Deductible: I strongly object to paying a second $100 deductible. Given the mechanic's admission of suspecting an unresolved issue, and the extremely short time frame between repairs, I believe the subsequent failure is directly related to the incomplete or inadequate initial service. It is unfair to require a second deductible when the initial repair was clearly not complete.
Lack of Documentation of Conversation: The mechanic stated the car was running like new and to return if issues persisted. I do not recall a conversation about an additional issue but the warranty company does. Additionally, it was not documented on any repair order.

I am extremely dissatisfied with the quality of service provided. The recurring issues and the demand for a second deductible, despite the mechanic's prior knowledge of a potential problem, are unacceptable. I will not be a customer of Westside Automotive Repair Shop in the future and will share my negative experience with my network.

This experience has severely eroded my trust in Westside Automotive Repair Shop.

Alex said they had the vehicle and said it would be fixed in a day. They had it for over a week with no contact, he had to call them and had to walk to the business to get them to fix his vehicle. It was done 2 days later, they charged an additional fee for more products, he drove his vehicle and humming noises were coming from the front end.

Great Experience
I spoke with Vlad. He was extremely professional, honest, and very knowledgeable. A tune up was done was on the car along with other repairs and the cost was reasonable. I would definitely go back to Westside Automotive if I need additional repairs.
