Sales Manager Laurie preys on new parents
Used a bait and switch tactic to lure us an hour away only to have the sales manager Laurie refuse to honor the price that was agreed upon when my wife called in the morning. To top it off, Laurie knew we were new parents that desperately need to get a bigger car and she knew my car was dangerous to drive because they test drove it for trade-in. We spent 4-5 hours just to be able to get to the dealership because we have a newborn, another 2 hours at the dealership and when it came time one for paperwork, Laurie jumped in and refused to honor the price. She claimed it wasn’t approved when my wife had called and verified before we drove an hour away and made sure they had all the info they needed for that price when we got there. Laurie tried to hard sell me a few days before that when I had said from the beginning I had to come back with my wife because the car is for her. She was rude to me that day, and then right from the moment she sat down once my wife was there, she immediately was rude to her too and hostile towards me because I didn’t buy the car Saturday.

Once she started lying about some of the fees in what they contained (government fees include dealer fees, I know that…but my wife asked what the fee consisted of and Laurie wouldn’t admit to the fact there’s added on fees). Laurie claimed it was for the title, plate and registration in Illinois when we have a standard fee no matter what the car for title and plates, it’s $316. Laurie was claiming it’s &488 and even when I proved her wrong, she again just talked down to me and said she lives in Illinois too so she knows. Had she just said that it’s paperwork fee or something, I would have still bought the car. But the fact that she wouldn’t admit it and lied to my face about it even when I proved her wrong, made me not want to do business with a dealer that would put such a rude and slimy salesman in charge.

There’s so much more but the way this place handles business is disturbing. Laurie preyed on our struggle as new parents to try and force us to pay $1,000 more. We ultimately walked. Had Laurie just been transparent and most of all, not be so insanely rude to us the entire time…I still would have bought the car. But I have never had someone be that nasty to me and especially my wife for absolutely no reason other than trying to pressure sell us.

So disclaimer, this dealership has many hidden fees they’ll wait to tell you about until after you’ve spent hours with the them, they are:

ALL cars have Brake Plus installed on them and it cost $1000, if you push them, it goes to &499 and they won’t budge on it that. The brake plus part cost &56 and takes less than 5 minutes to install. It’s simply a profit generator for them

Document fees are charged and then more are charged hidden into your government fees

If you aren’t financing with them, their demeanor changes and they don’t want you to buy the car there

Great Customer service
Hello I Schedule a windshield recall yesterday there crew was extremely nice got me in a timely manner everyone at the counter was nice even though they seem to be super busy great friendly people no one had a Frown on there face or seem unhappy told me it would be a few hours to get the service done and they will call me very very please thank you so much for making my visit great .

Update from previous review
After talking to the service advisor that took in my vehicle he apologoized for the mishap and reassured me that everything was taken care of on his end. He also noticed that my husbands vehicle was there and would make sure it would be taken care of.

Terrible dealership
They knew I was coming from 3 hours away. They sent me a video that showed none of the damage to the car. And then told me when I pointed it out that they were the lowest dealership. Around on that vehicle and I was looking at a used car. Then they tried to hardcore sale me and I just left. They were unwilling to negotiate price. Even though they did not disclose the damage to the vehicle, it was a wasted 6 hours of my time that I could have been doing something much more productive. I did not buy the car and I would never ever go there again!!!

My wife and I purchased a Sonata from "Big John" Crawford several months ago. I recently dropped in to ask for his help in resolving a technical issue I was having. He generously dropped everything and came out to help me. Even better, he quickly solved the problem. I greatly appreciated his kindness, expertise, and generosity!

John was very kind and courteous. He was very well informed about the vehicle. ( 2024 Tucson) we were interested in.
We did not feel pressured at all. Very comfortable about talking to him about what we wanted. We would recommend him to our family, friends and neighbors.

Deceptive price online and in person
I had an appointment on 9/28 for an oil change for my 2021 Kona that I bought new at this dealer. The online listed price was $54.95 but when I arrived I was told it is $69.95 plus tax. When I shared that, Cindi laughed and said no that's not right. I was appaled and immediately left. This happened one time before too. I see the website has now been updated but I still have the screen shot from that day. It is not acceptable to treat customers by laughing and essentially saying they are lying. Unlike last time where I showed the online price, I just left after being disrespected. I had always been to one of the Webb Hyundai locations for service where we bought it and that I will return.

Overcharge on Purchase of Hyundai Santa Fe Sel
Eric Gdowski and Jim Menz committed fraud when they sold a 2023 Santa Fe Sel to my grandson by
not giving him a written copy of the paperwork and sales contract to read before he signed it. The Legal way to conduct business is to give him a copy of the sales agreement, let him read it totally and then ask if he read it. If he answers yes, then have him sign it. None of this was done. He couldn't even find out the MSRP value was. Jim Menz asked him what he could afford per month and my Grandson answered about $850.00 per month so Jim Menz went into his office and moved the figures around until he came up with $865.00 per month. He never told Him that he increased the total about 20% over the MSRP. We asked for all the paperwork but Jim Menz told us everything was digital and on a flash drive. He also included the $8,100.00 in warranty fees which we had not requested. This was suppose to be optional and not mandatory to the purchase of the automobile. All Jim Menz wanted was for Sean to sign, sign and sign on a small Ipad which he never let Sean read and beside it was hard to read. I didn't know what was signed for until I plugged the flash drive into the computer and saw all the additional charges. I am not sure that these contracts are valid because they were not signed according to Law. I have all the paperwork now including the proof that this procedure was exercised twice before and I intend to Get Hyundai America involved in this disagreement by sending all the papers and proof that this was done, I am also going to advertise to see if there are any other Victims that have gone through this same rip off and start a Class Action suit against your Dealership and possible Hyundai American.

Lack of service
Webb Hyundai is eager to sell a car but once you pull out of the dealership with the new car you are no longer recognized as a customer. Service departments at both locations I cannot recommend. Purchased car in June of 2021 and not until February 2023 did I receive any decent service (from the service department) or experience any customer service (staff able to answer questions). Finally, February 9th 2 gentlemen (from the service department and one from sales) actually took the time and were pleasant, respectful. Kudos to the Merrillville dealership. I cannot knock Hyundai … maybe I’ll try another Hyundai dealer but I cannot recommend Webb.

Fraud Alert - Webb Hyundai Highland, Indiana sales team (Eric Gdowski and Jim Menz) performed a "bait and switch" on me and committed fraud to persuade me to quickly sign a Leasing Agreement on their Ipad, which Jim Menz proudly boosted would take no more than 90 seconds - "Everything we discussed, just sign here, here, here." After they rushed me to sign, they told me a copy of the Lease Agreement would be uploaded to a flash drive. I got home, plugged in the flash drive they gave me to my laptop and found no Lease Agreement. Ladies and Gentlemen, this was intentional "out of sight, out of mind"...."Shhh... hopefully he doesn't find out how we really nailed him". I finally got a copy the next day after some strong words with Jim Menz. When I reviewed the Lease Agreement, boy was I shocked! The mark-up ended up being $4.5K over MSRP and the warranty/protection service they claimed "would only add $16/month" - was actually over $5K or $110/monthly. They kept my focus on the overall monthly payment while they added around $10K in added cost from mark-up, service protection plans, and increased sales tax amount. Eric Gdowski claimed there was no Lease termination fee and I could return the vehicle to the dealership early before my term was over. I trusted Eric and put my guard down thinking "if I'm not satisfied with this Lease Agreement I can always return the vehicle to the dealer and end the lease." The next day I told Eric Gdowski I was unsatisfied and wanted to end my lease. He quickly turned his tune to "I never said that". During the sales transaction I asked Eric TWICE in front of my wife regarding the Lease Agreement termination cost for reassurance. She is still in shock he would deny it because he seemed like a sweet, young kid starting his career in sales, and she did not expect him to be your typical sleazy car salesman. They are refusing to take back the vehicle and refunding my money. I plan to take legal action against this dealership. Please do not end up like me, read every sentence of that Purchase/Leasing agreement, even if it takes you an hour and you have Jim Menz hovering over the Ipad to make you feel like you need to sign quickly. If anything, make them print the papers and sit down in a comfy couch and take your sweet time going through page by page. They intentionally hold you up for 3 to 4 hours of BS back and forth before signing documents to break your spirit and make you want to get it over with. Never trust or take their word for anything unless it's written in fine print. I plan to take legal action to recuperate the ~$3K down-payment I gave them. I hope others speak up so we can file a class action lawsuit against fraudulent sales practices at Webb Hyundai - Highland, Indiana. I know i'm not the only victim.
