Hi Danny!
I'm so sorry we could not meet your expectations for repair of your vehicle. As you live nearby, you know just how busy our shop is. For this reason we have to schedule appointments in advance. As we are always that busy we inform our customers there may be delays in getting their cars accessed with estimates for repairs.
We don't take quick looks and guess what's needed. Your car had what appeared to be serious overheating problem and it looks like other repairs may have been attempted. For this reason we wanted one of more experienced techs to check your car.
We actually had your vehicle checked out same day and it was on queue for estimates when you came by quite upset that we didn't have estimates ready. You took the car out without getting the report!
Again, my apologies for not meeting your expectations on timing. I hope you found a good shop, less busy than ours to help with your overheating issue.
Best regards,
David

Honest mechanics in Brooklyn?
Urban Classics. The owner runs a tight, skilled and honest shop. Nothing but good experiences there. I've never had any reason to question them.

New
Overpriced
I have been bringing our family car in to Urban Classics for 8 years. We've generally been satisfied with their work, despite the lengthy time it takes to get the car back every time we drop off (usually about a week). We always expected decent work and a call after any repairs to check in on how things were going.
Came in this year for annual inspection, and I mentioned at drop off (Mon AM) there was some grinding in the front end. After waiting for 2 days to hear from them, they reccommend several repairs, totalling well over $4K. We declined to have the engine fully removed to fix a minor coolant leak, we declined to have leaves and debris blown out of the and have peppermint oil applied to repel rodents. We agreed to the headlight replacement and inspection. I picked up the car Thursday, passed inspection. Driving days later, the sound was still there, getting worse. Never got any follow up call. Finally, decided to take my car to a different shop yesterday (~1 month after the Urban Classic week-long "inspection"). Immediately (literally within 5 minutes of arriving) the mechanic looked at my brakes and showed me where metal was grinding on metal. The mechanic assured me that these brakes would NOT pass inspection. The car was NOT safe. The new shop installed new brake pads and rotors and I got my car back THE SAME DAY!
My family had been driving around in an unsafe vehicle that Urban Classic passed. When I wouldn't agree to all of their proposed work, it seems they decided to just slap on an inspection sticker. I will not return to a business that holds your car for days, attempts to search for ultra expensive work to drive up a bill, and declines to do basic safety checks required for an inspection. Infuriating and dangerous.
