Attacked and Threatened by Staff

If I could give zero stars, I would. I'm a new resident to Virginia, Charlottesville and UVA. In the past year I have purchased two full sets of brand new tires for my vehicles from University Tire on West Main, both within days (+$1,200). I like to be a loyal customer when I can, so I decided to return today to get an oil change and have my vehicle inspected. As indicated by other reviewers, my vehicle failed inspection because of a barely visible crack in top corner of my driver side mirror that has been there for several years (and through multiple inspection cycles). I was shocked. Well over 2 hours after I first arrived, I asked to pay so that we could leave and get this car inspected elsewhere. I was told by Brandy at the front counter "you need to wait" (just like that). I again told Brandy that wanted to pay my bill and get my car, and that's where this situation really became surreal and frightening. Brandy lost all sense of civility and customer service and began screaming at me (without a mask on, by the way--NONE of them had a mask on) -- and then directed her anger toward my 13 y/o who asked her why she was screaming at us. When I told Brandy to knock it off, she unleashed a rant that was unbelievably loud, rude, and difficult to follow. Next, she picked up the phone and said she was calling 911 on me (for what?!), which I agreed would be a good move because I was really getting scared, and I didn't have any way to leave since they still had my car. Turns out she was on the phone with the regional manager, Onnie, who himself didn't have the courage to shut her down. The way she screamed at him was almost as bad as the rant she directed at us. I'm 50 y/o -- first time I ever experienced ANYTHING like this. To top it all off, they were unable to figure out how to reset the "maintenance required" display on my car after the oil change. I was told that I needed to return on Monday to have that done. NOT a chance I will ever go back; instead I watched a 2-minute YouTube video on my phone and I had the display reset in five minutes. The regional manager refunded my money, but I will never step foot in any University Tire again.

Scammers

Beware of this place and their scamming techniques, especially with local students. They failed my daughter’s car inspection saying she needed new tires. I know they were close to needing to be replaced but not at the fail point. They also tried to scare her by telling her she would get a ticket for driving with the rejection sticker, which is not true. In Virginia you have 15 days during which you can drive legally to take care of a problem. My daughter was kind of stuck. It was either buy new tires or get a rejection sticker. After a three-way conversation, we chose to except a rejection sticker and shop for a better deal in tires, which we found. The new place said the tires should
Not have failed, but it would be wise to replace them soon. I feel like this place tried to take it vantage of my grown child’s naivety about such things and they tried scare tactics (you can get a ticket) to try to get her to buy tires on the spot

Don't waste your time or money here

I took my car here for an inspection. The mechanic told me the car needed new front brakes and wiper blades. The also recommend removing and replacing spark plugs and the double platinum plug, everything for an estimate of $830. That seemed very high, so I decided to take my car elsewhere for a second and third opinion. I was informed by these new mechanics that nothing was wrong with my car, other than my windshield wipers. I replaced those, for a total of $40, including an inspection. They did not see anything wrong with my brakes.

I call the manager back at University Tires asking for an explanation about his high estimate. On the phone, he got defensive and threatened to report this case to the State Police because, according to him, my car should not have passed the inspection. I encouraged him to please report the case then he hung up on me.

A month before I also took the car to this place, this time for an oil change and I ended up expending $300 for things they said my car needed. Now I wonder if my car needed those things or this is the modus operandi of this garage.

Simple questions no answers, more questions they called the POLICE on me!

I brought my car (60,000 miles well-cared Subaru) for oil change and state inspection because my regular dealer was not available for a while.
They called me telling that I need new front brakes because there is an incomplete overlap between pads and rotors (never heard of this before does not make any sense) for only 800$. I said no thank you, I will go somewhere else. Do you mind explaining what this overlap thing is? no answer!
Next I pay my bill and decide to check my oil. Check the dipstick, oil seems brown. Sir, are you sure that you have changed the oil it is not very clear, do you mind coming with me to have a look?
Yes, I mind! Please leave and take your car somewhere else or I will call the police!
I had a lovely chat with the Police officer and left the garage.
Best case scenario horrible customer services, worst case scenario...

Bit of a wait

I always go in for routine maint early on Saturday mornings to try and beat the crowd. Up until this last visit it worked great, in and out quickly. This time there was a backup from the previous day so it took a few hours. I will try again next time and hope it works out better. Beyond that the renovation looks good, appreciate the fresh hot coffee as well.

Wonderful customer service and knowledgeable technicians.

Got the dreaded long distance phone call, I ran over a nail, and I don't have time to get it fixed. This company took matters into its own hands, and I only had to make a couple of calls. So, parents of college students, use University Tire! You won't be disappointed!

Great Service

Very quick service. Also, because waiting room was closed due to renovations, they went and found a bench so I would not have to sit on the cold cement. They also offered to buy me a cup of coffee on this cold morning.
