Possible battery or else alternator problem; the dashboard battery light turned on

Called for an appointment, and was able to bring the car in the same day! Was offered a ride home if it turned out to be a lengthy fix. Rather than waiting, they checked it right away and were able to determine it was a battery replacement needed. The alternator was ok. I remained there and was able to drive the car away myself.
