Unfortunately, I had to use Joe when my mechanic was sheltering in place and my older Honda Accord needed the engine replaced. We bought this vehicle new and have a long maintenance relationship with an excellent mechanic. During the engine replacement, Joe called us and announced that our estimate for installing the engine was now +$500 stating the vehicle needed a new clutch. We knew when the clutch was last replaced and that not only was it unnecessary, but also, with the engine out if it were to need replacement it would cost no where near $500 even with our relatively expensive Honda specialist. So, of course we told Joe that he was not to add anything onto our estimate without permission and we only wanted what was required to install the engine properly. We were surprised when only hours later he called and said our car was ready. We learned later that Joe had hit the roof when we refused to allow him to do the clutch and add the extra $$ to our bill. Apparently, he and a buddy literally threw our new engine into the vehicle not replacing the needed elements (such as seals and even an engine mount!) to maintain the warranty on the replacement engine. My assessment of Joe is that while he may be a fairly decent mechanic, he is dishonest and will take advantage of you if he possibly can. We were sorry to have to get involved with him at all.
