RUN, DON'T WALK TO ANY OTHER DEALER
There are no words descriptive or strong enough to warn people away from this place. Seriously - just run. There are other cars and for the junk you will get here and the lies and the hassle, it is just not worth it. We had the distinct displeasure and misfortune of buying a car from Mark of Checkered Flag Auto at Tariffville Auto in February of 2018. It was a 3rd/spare vehicle (truck) mostly to be used for dump runs and therefore, not driven often; it was older so we knew it wouldn't be perfect but were ok with that. It seemed to be in good overall condition and we were told there were no accidents and they had gone over the truck and it was in great condition. Lie #1 was that there were no accidents. My wife ran the CarFax and lo and behold, there was an accident. After bringing this to Mark's attention he apologized and stuttered a bit and said he had run VINCheck, not CarFax and sometimes the information isn't the same and he was going to talk to the owner about using CarFax instead. My wife is in the insurance industry so she knew there can be some truth to this, but she decided to double check and ran the VINcheck report herself and found lie #2: the accident was on it and lie #3 was that he actually ran it, there was NO WAY he ran the report. At this point my wife told me we were done and to start looking somewhere else for something else - but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt since the truck looked ok. I was being lazy and she didn't push it. HUGE mistake for both of us, so the saga continued. The other piece of information on the CarFax was the color was listed as blue - this truck was very clearly Silver or Gray. Mark explained it away and said he would have the registration updated before we took possession. I neglected to verify this and it wasn't until later when my wife looked at the registration that we realized Mark had not delivered on his promise, the registration still showed as blue. This is a problem. So we called Mark and he again apologized and said he'd fix it right away. This did not happen. It took months of repeated calls and reminders to finally get done what he promised to do from the start. The other issues were the day after getting it home we discovered a bake light was out. If they inspected it so well, how was that missed? Then a couple weeks later the battery was dead as a doornail. Again - if this was checked out so well before selling, how was this missed? A couple months after all that, the last nail in the coffin was banged into place. I went to drive it and noticed a huge piece of the suspension on the passenger side was hanging on the ground. AAA came to tow it to our mechanic and after they got the truck up on the lift, not only did they find that the right control arm was rotted out ($1200 to replace) and the left was also about to go, but the entire frame was rotted/rotting (and many other issues, but that was the biggest) the truck was unsafe to be on the road, never should have been offered for sale, and would cost far more than it was worth to fix. So there are 2 possible conclusions: 1. Mark/Checkered Flag Auto/Tarriffville Auto are crooks and knew about the rot and didn't care and just wanted to get rid of it so they were completely negligent and calculating in the decision to sell it, or 2. they really did not bother to look it over and do the due diligence the law/DMV REQUIRES of all licensed dealers to do on a vehicle before sale and ensure it is safe and in good working order and therefore, were negligent in their duties; or a combination of all that. Any way you look at it - it's BAD. We filed a complaint against them with the DMV and won, they had to reimburse us and take the car back, and they were fined as a result of their dishonest behavior. All that is to say again: DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS PLACE OR THESE PEOPLE.
