Computer codes
Had codes flashing on my dash, each code indicated something wrong from emission system problem, power steering and traction control, 5 total. They took it in and in no time it was cleared and they test drove it. To make sure it wasn't reoccurring. I have the highest regards for this auto repair shop.

ZERO STARS! They will rip you off!
DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO SOUTHSIDE AUTO REPAIR. I wish I could give them zero stars. My Honda Odyssey broke down in Lexington last week. I live 90 minutes away so I had AAA tow it to one of their “recommended repair sites” which happened to be Southside Auto Repair. I wish that I had looked up the reviews before I agreed to have it towed there because obviously I’m not the first person they’ve tried to rip off, there reviews are horrible. When the tow truck driver arrived, his charging system tester showed that the alternator was not charging the battery. I figured this was the case because I had just replaced the battery a few months earlier. When we arrived at Southside Auto Repair I told them that I wanted the alternator replaced and that the battery was new, and if the battery was bad it was still under warranty and that I would get a replacement. The next day I received a text from Southside Auto saying that the alternator and battery needed to be replaced, but before they could do those repairs an oil leak from the valve covers would have to be repaired first because it was a safety issue. I called Southside Auto Repair on the phone and they informed me that it would cost $2800 for those repairs. That’s when I realized my mistake. I knew that I was getting ripped off because I just had the van at a dealership 4 weeks earlier to get the timing belt replaced and if that oil leak was a safety issue they would not have let me leave there with that van. I told Southside to not touch anything and that I would come and get the vehicle. I still had to pay a $115 ransom fee, for a diagnosis that was not needed and didn’t ask for, to get my vehicle back. Luckily, the van ran long enough for me to get it to a Honda dealership less than a mile away and they replaced the alternator with a Honda alternator, not an aftermarket alternator, for $794 and had it done in a little over an hour. I will never allow Southside Auto Repair to even look at one of my vehicles ever again!

Don't expect they give you 1 hour oil exchange..... but what they is to make sure every part of the car been inspected, give you necessary maintenance..... makes me rest assure on the road......

ZERO STARS $100+ estimates!
ZERO stars!! Be Aware! Southside DOES NOT do free estimates! You WILL pay $100+ depending on their mood that day, just to walk in the door and talk to them. I called ahead of time but was not informed of this "fee" until it was too late. Note, this "fee" does NOT go toward repair costs, which are also overpriced. I've never done business this way and will not moving forward. When asked about this fee, I was told "You pay a co-pay at the doctors office don't you." WOW! Very poor customer service! I have a brand new vehicle, brand new tires, with just one slow leaking tire. $400 and 2 days later I have a new tire. If course they weren't able to fix mine. I left Southside TOTALLY uncomfortable with my purchase!! But I needed the tire fixed. Now I have daily thoughts of what they may have done to my vehicle unnecessarily, to get more $ from me :-( I was seeking service for peace of mind! I DID NOT get that from Southside! We've lived in the Southland neighborhood all my life (40+years) and was kind of excited to see this convenient location for family car repairs. My entire family (9 vehicles total) and anyone else I can tell will know DO NOT use Southside! Please drive/tow to another location! It's just not worth the stress. I have a Great Mechanic and have never been treated this way, EVER! I now see why we stick with what we know.

No hard feelings, but I won't be back
Owners are great people and they do top notch work but the estimate for my repair was 40%+ more than two other reputable places I called once I got the quote. I sincerely say "good for Southside!" Obviously the demand is there so I wish them all the success, I just won't be back. My only real criticism is that I feel like we had to initiate all the calls to get the diagnostic and repair costs. There was no person to person follow up afterwards to at least walk us through it. The feeling I got was I called and asked about getting the feedback was you get and email. Once the email came, which was detailed and thorough, the tone seemed to be, "here is your diagnostic (email), let us know what you want to do, call us when you are ready." If you are going to charge premium prices I should get a follow up call by phone with premium consultation on options and talk about pricing. Instead I my wife and I felt like we had to initiate the follow up, including call back and ask for pricing. I chalk some of this up to growth b/c my experience with the owners in the past is that they are very proactive. It is what it is. As for a pricing example, one of the repair projects they recommended was a new battery. keep in mind that this is a 12 year old Toyota van with 240K miles on it. The cost for...$350, because "that is what the manufacturer calls for." uh huh. In the twelve years I've owned the van I have put the same type of battery in it, which has always performed well and lasted the normal lifespan of 3-4 years at a price tag of, at most, of $169. I won't even mention the estimate to replace the alternator/belt. I have money. I am not afraid to spend it to repair my vehicles. I also prefer to support local family owned businesses. I am definitely not opposed to them making a profit. I am even willing to pay a little more. On the flip side, however, I am not going to pay more that the van is worth for a battery and alternator repair. Sorry.

First time not blown away
We have done A LOT of business with Southside over the past 6 years and you would get 6, or even 7, out of 5 stars every other time. This past week and a half we had both (dropoffs separated by about a week) of our vehicles need evaluated and repaired and this review is basically of both of those experiences.

We left the first vehicle overnight on a Sunday using the key drop as we have sooooo many times before. We didn't hear back from the shop regarding the car for 3 or 4 days and we finally called in and were told that it would be seen the next day likely. So, we waited all day and then finally called late afternoon to ask about the issues discovered. We decided what we were going to have done and timeline of completion was left very ambiguous going into the weekend. Monday midday we still had to call back in to see if it was ready and it was, but we hadn't been called to be told that yet. We had expressed that we had some timelines we were up against and just needed to be told one way or other what timelines were looking like. The second vehicle then had unexpected issues and we had to drop it off the same evening afterhours. Now our travel issues and family requirements were really screwed up. Waited until early afternoon Tues to see if it was evaluated yet and the answer was no, it would be either late afternoon or next day. Waited until mid afternoon next day (wednesday) and hadn't heard back, called in again. "Oh I was just about to call you. I wanted to ask you more about what happened and what we are looking for." Explained. Had a report on issues next day(Thursday) around noon. Discussed them, made decisions and car got done that afternoon in a timely manner.

Ok all that is a long story, but I just wanted to contrast that with every other (and there are many) experiences we've had at your shop. The customer service agent(s) have obviously turned over. But the experience turned over with it. The agent is very kind, polite, and caring but the level of attentiveness and efficiency is drastically different. I fully understand that you are a very successful and busy shop, for good reason--you do good, no, great work. But we became very used to a much more efficient and informed experience. In the past, no matter how many cars would be in front of us in the line, if we dropped off a car with key drop overnight we would get a phone call the next morning, like clockwork. The agent would let me know they had the car and in detail ask about our concerns, what we were worried about, what services we thought we wanted if any prior to it being seen in the shop by a tech. That phone call was so thorough it almost made writing anything on the envelope unnecessary, it was awesome. I knew that the shop understood what I was worried about or hoping for. At that time I'd also get an idea how many cars in front of me were in the line and about (roughly) when I could expect a report on the issues. This makes all kinds of difference for a busy family trying to manage life being down a vehicle. Then at every step of the way I would get phone calls and texts with updates and the agents would be very knowledgeable about the issues the techs recommended (almost certain they were former techs that had moved into the office), it was incredibly helpful in deciding on a tight budget what we would fix now and what needed/could be delayed. This go around I felt like I had to chase the shop for each and every step. It seemed like time was lost because of it and there was just a lot guessing on our part. Again, I would say that this is normal in the industry, but we have had nothing but exceptional from you for the previous 6 years. Still, you are the shop I will come to because so many experiences in the past showed me that you do business with impeccable integrity, fairness, and quality. You earned my trust and still have it because these complaints are about the interface, not the work done or the price etc. I really just write this because if I was in charge I'd want to know.

Very friendly, thorough and accommodating staff. This was my first visit to Southside Auto but could not be more pleased with the service I received. I will continue to take my vehicles to them for any and all maintenance and repairs.

patience with customers and explaining the problems
We were worried about finding a repair center that had experience with foreign makes such as the mini cooper. this car is my grand- daughter's first car and is her "baby". you were patient with explanations and options. Stella is a jewel and a real plus for your business.

SERVICE WITH A SMILE !!!
I have been a customer since they moved in the new building on Southland Drive . I have always been pleased for so many reasons. The main one I believe if there is an issue they do not stop until the issue is found. I have a 2002 Subaru Forester. I am so grateful to them that I know my car is always the best it can be on the road.

Great service!
I have had some issues with brakes and had new ones installed a few months ago. For some reason they were not working well and Southside Auto Repair removed the used ones and replaced at no cost to me. They said that I should not have to pay for poor brake pads. They were fast and cared about my safety with regard to the brakes. I really appreciate that!
