I had my VW Beetle towed to Shaker Auto Hospital with the engine light on. After having replaced the battery, the shop tells me that a throttle body is bad & needs replaced. The cost - $1,500. I figured the mechanics know best and reluctantly approved. A while later I called the shop and requested my old part back. Not sure why I wanted it, but the next thing I knew, the shop owner calls me and says that they flushed the coolant & antifreeze,
following which the engine light was gone, consequently I didn't need the costly throttle body replacement.
I can't help but thinking, what if I didn't request the old part back? Would have most likely paid through the roof for the repairs I didn't need in the first place.
It doesn't feel good to be taken advantage of, which almost happened, had I accidentally not asked the right question. I will not set my foot in this shop for the rest of my life, and highly don't recommend this shop. They can't be trusted!
