Our technicians' responsibility is to diagnose the cause of a concern before replacing parts. During our testing, we were unable to duplicate a starter failure, and the vehicle started and operated normally. Based on our diagnostic findings, we identified other issues that could contribute to the intermittent starting concern and discussed those recommendations before proceeding with any repairs beyond the requested oil change.
Diagnostic testing does require technician time and expertise, which is why there is a charge for the service. Although the diagnosis required approximately two hours of testing, we billed only one hour. We do not replace parts that we cannot confirm have failed, as doing so could result in unnecessary expense without resolving the concern.
We also noted your concern regarding the engine cover. After reviewing the repair with our technician, we were unable to confirm that it was removed during the diagnostic process. However, we appreciate you bringing it to our attention.
