Misrepresentation of Brake Pad life for an attempt at a quick transaction
I do not like to leave negative reviews, but I hope this can help someone save some $ in the future.
The short of this review is that Jorge's team misrepresented the brake pad life I had remaining to try to get me to commit to having them replaced for what would have came out to $840 (Front brake pads, 2 Rotors, and a brake fluid flush). To include the back brakes & rotors I was looking at $1.4K+
They stated I had 10% brake life left on the front brakes and 20% on the back and stressed the importance of getting them replaced right away. I was stressing as I had a long road trip ahead of me with my family so this tugged at the heart strings a bit. After a couple conversations with my father who has worked as an auto parts salesman I decided I was going to push through with the trip as he could get me a better price from one of his contacts. I didn't hold the price against Jorge and his team as in this world it helps to know somebody to get a better deal, business is business.
However what I do hold against his team is that after dropping my car off with the 2nd opinion mechanic, he quickly called me confused about 10 mins later asking "Why are you wanting new brakes?" Also confused I shared with him the news about the brake pad life and he proceeded to share with me that I had over 50% of my brake pad life left on all four tires. Additionally he said he wouldn't even suggest the fluid flush as this has been known to cause ABS issues with vehicles historically... The piece about the fluid flush is subjective as admitted by this mechanic, but I couldn't understand why a friend of my fathers, who had easy business in front of him would not just take the opportunity unless I actually had much of my brake pad life remaining and he
was looking out for my best interests.
Thankfully I lucked out on saving $1.4K+, but unfortunately I lost what I though was a local trusted mechanic. I called this morning to share this feedback with Jorges team and had somewhat hoped for a call back with some effort of sincerity. That never happened so I've decided to leave this review.
I highly recommend getting a second opinion after my experience, or even requesting that they physically show you the life of your brake pad. Good mechanics are tough to find... Guess I'll keep on looking
