I brought my Jeep in on June 8 for an oil change and to have a muffler hanger installed because the muffler was hanging and rattling. This was a minor repair that should have been straightforward and quick.
Later that Monday, I received a call informing me that the muffler technician would not be available until Thursday. While I was surprised that such a simple repair apparently depended on a single technician, I agreed to wait because I did not need my vehicle until the weekend.
Unfortunately, Thursday came and went without any communication. Around noon, I called for an update and was told someone would speak with the technician and call me back. By 4:00 p.m., I still had not heard anything.
I was then told the technician would be in on Friday. When Friday arrived, I received a series of conflicting explanations and delays. Around 3:00 p.m., I was informed that someone had gone to pick up the part and that the repair would be completed within 45 minutes. Then, around 4:15 p.m., I received another call stating that the wrong part had been picked up and the repair could not be completed after all.
Because I needed my vehicle that weekend, I was told the muffler would be secured well enough to last until the repair could be completed the following week. Unfortunately, that promise was not fulfilled either.
When I arrived to pick up my vehicle, I found several employees sitting in the office, yet no one proactively explained the next steps or when I should return. I had to ask whether I would receive a call with an update, and I was told someone would contact me the following Monday morning.
After days of missed deadlines, broken promises, and a lack of communication, I ultimately decided to take my vehicle to Bernie's down the street instead. They repaired the issue quickly, communicated clearly, and confirmed that this was a simple repair that should not have taken more than a day to complete.
I also hope the lack of communication and dismissive treatment I experienced had nothing to do with me being a younger woman. Whether intentional or not, I often felt that my concerns were not being taken seriously.
My frustration is not that the repair was delayed. Delays happen. My frustration is with the repeated lack of communication, broken promises, missed deadlines, and overall disregard for my time. At no point did anyone take ownership of the situation or provide clear, honest, and consistent updates.
Because of this experience, I will be sharing honest reviews so that other customers can make informed decisions. Based on the service I received, I cannot recommend John's Auto and will not be returning for future work.
