When I told the owner of Get Lifted, Cindy/Cynthia (sorry if I spelled wrong) I needed the brakes checked, she kindly asked all the right questions and did not try to upsell anything. For 56 years I had the privilege of absorbing knowledge from my dad who a was retired master Chrysler technician and from my own days on the other side of the counter, I could tell it was clean and clear. There would be no bamboozling going on in Ms. Cindy's shop. She fit the Soul In that afternoon.
A few minutes after getting it on the lift and the wheels off, her tech promptly found me in their perfectly appointed waiting area enjoying a complementary snack and a chilled bottle of water. He invited me to the shop to feel the rust pitted rotors and see the thinning pads. Could the discs could be machined rather than replaced? I asked. Not within specs, he replied.
Brakes are all about saving lives. The D.O.T. has hard and fast rules. Shops that don't follow them don't last long. But it is still my decision. I got an honest professional's interpretation and a hands-on look at the source of the grinding and pulsating of the pedal. Now I know it won't be metal on metal for a little while longer. But I will definitely return to Get Lifted when it's time.
