Knowingly sell cars needing repairs
I strongly advise the Lubbock community to steer clear of Gene Messer Hyundai. My experience revealed deceptive practices and dishonorable behavior.

On July 1, 2024, I test drove a truck with VIN 1GCGTEEN9K1163556. The salesman, Chris Mendez, dismissed a concerning noise as "off-road tires," which was misleading. After some negotiation, I agreed to a deal, only to find out on July 8 that the price had increased by $5,000. Despite my objections, the dealership refused to honor the original price.

Brenden Cimino, the manager, admitted the price should have been honored and later offered a lower price. However, upon independent inspection, the truck had severe issues including leaking springs, axle problems, and more--issues that were not disclosed by the dealership.

Chris and the dealership failed to inform me about these problems or the prior repairs. They seemed to intentionally hide these defects to maximize their profit. When confronted, they offered no resolution and suggested I either accept the truck as-is or walk away.

Gene Messer Hyundai's deceptive practices are unacceptable. I will be reporting them to the Texas DMV, the BBB, and our local congressman. It's disheartening to know that such a scandalous business operates in our community. I suggest avoiding this business entirely!

The very same truck I was trying to by that needs thousands of dollars of repairs is sitting on their lot for sale. And according to Cars.com, the sale price is lower than it’s ever been.

Poor service,
Do not buy a car from these people, certainly not a warranty. I financed the warranty. They ordered the wrong part for my car and now they are not taking phone calls, from me. I drive for Lyft to eat, so I'm not eating and I'm homeless now. SMH!

Buying A Vehicle
I bought my 17yr old her first vehicle there and found out it had a bad transmission.. Filed it under my warranty which thank god I purchased when I got the vehicle.. Picked the vehicle up 3 months later which to find the cover off the bottom of the car after the mechanic forgot to put it back on and the vehicle still misfiring when stepping on the gas.. The warranty replaced the transmission but was told they didn’t know the problem because it wasn’t giving a code that it could go to another dealership which would mean passing the buck off onto the other dealership instead of fixing the problem.. The only way of talking to the service department is going in cause the person that was assigned to us never calls back even after leaving msgs non stop. What was suppose to be a great day for a 17yr old has turned into a total failure.

Poorly run service dept.
Scheduled service and was 3rd in line when doors opened. Was told repair would take no more than 2 hours. I called 4 hours later and was on hold the entire drive to the dealership. Upon arrival, I was informed that repairs had not begun. I will not use this service department again and would not recommend it to anyone.

Very deceiving and disappointing
Changing my review to one star, since I got home and realized there is no way to turn off the car alarm as they sold it with no key fob! I pointed this out to the manager, who failed to respond to my written request to work this out as I had to pay $350 to fix this issue. Do not do business with Gene Messer as they will lie and deceive just to sell a car. So disappointed.

Beware of being ripped off
Beware of being ripped off. Very dishonest inspections and services. They will charge you as much as they could for no good reason. I had my car here inspected, took my car to some other mechanic for half cost.

AVOID THIS PLACE
This place is crooked. DO NOT TRUST THE POSITIVE REVIEWS. THEY ARE PAID REVIEWS. Read negative reviews, they are real.
If you don't want to end up with replacing the whole engine of your car because the headlight bulb is burnt and get billed like crazy, then stay out of this place. The most crooked car dealer and services in Lubbock.
If I could give zero stars, I would have done it.
STAY AWAY OUT OF THIS PLACE. READ NEGATIVE REVIEWS.

Terrible, terrible experience (read if considering purchasing a car here)
Terrible, terrible place. I planned on getting my first car here at Gene Messer Hyundai in Lubbock Texas, and there’s been nothing but delays in getting the car, and extra fees added into my deal. I couldn’t get any of the signatures from my co-signer done online so this in turn prolonged the process by over two weeks. This wasn’t an issue at Nissan when my older sister got her first car. Also, I had a base plan of 16k but it went up to 24k due to Geoff Schramme and Ayo Ayodele sales tactics to steal money out of me and my family. My sister is a nurse and she offered to be a co-signer, and she has excellent credit- but despite this the dealership still wants to charge me a high 11% in interest because my credit and job isn’t up to standards (we had agreed to a much lower interest rate but for some reason they changed it to 11% and brought up that excuse). My credit shouldn’t be in question due to my sister being co-signer and my job shouldn’t be in question due to my father accepting to make all the payments. I have literally never heard this at any other dealerships, from anyone in my family or friends group. Also, I was clearly explained that the protection services/ plan didn’t come as additional charges (and since this is my first car I didn’t know any better)- so I accepted and now it looks like I can’t back out of it. So my father is obviously not willing to pay $530 per month for 60 months for a car that’s meant to be cheap, the Hyundai Accent. Might as well get a Tesla for $480/ month. The monthly charge or bill was meant to be in the $300s- low $400s. I don’t recommend this place, look somewhere else if you want a professional experience (we couldn’t even get a call back from Schramme last Saturday) and if you don’t want to lose money. My father will now lose $1,000 because he plans to back out of the deal and obviously the down payment can’t be refunded.

AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE
I went for a brakes service, alignment and balance, and and oil change. I drop off my vehicle off at 8am, they said it was gonna be ready at 12. Well i had to go there at 5:30, cz it was almost time to close and i haden't heard nothing from them. And when i got there, they said they didnt had "one part" for the brakes, that i need to leave the vehicle till next day. I said "no thanks, is fine i jst pay for the otter stuff".... but they didnt do tbe rest of the service, NOTHING. NOT EVEN THE OIL CHANGE. And NOBODY BOTHER TO AT LEAST GIVE ME A CALL AND LET ME KNOW.
Really bad experience with these guys.

Even after that bad experience, they STILL have not sent me the missing parts of my vehicle!! They keep stating they will call me back every time I inquire about the delivery of my missing parts, BUT THEY NEVER DO!!

Awesome service
Jasmine Levario has helped me in a time of need twice now. It’s so stressful and expensive when your car needs fixing! Jasmine always makes sure to put my mind at ease and let’s me know she will do whatever she can to make the process easier on me. My car was fixed faster than I thought it would be and the best part is I couldn’t afford to pay it all upfront and I had no idea I could pay in monthly payments with no interest.
