Front staff great, tech did not follow instructions
Dear Service Manager,

I am submitting this letter as a formal complaint regarding the service performed on my 2014 Chevy Cruze during my recent visit to your facility. The purpose of my appointment was clearly stated at the time of scheduling and again upon arrival: to replace the crankshaft sensor, which is the next required step in addressing the P0017 diagnostic code.

Prior to bringing the vehicle in, I had already completed the standard preliminary repairs recommended by Chevrolet technicians and community experts, including replacement of the VVT solenoids (intake and exhaust), replacement of the camshaft sensors, and a fresh oil and filter change. My request to your shop was specific, reasonable, and directly related to resolving the P0017 issue.

Despite this, the authorized repair — the crankshaft sensor replacement — was not performed. Instead, I was charged over $200 to be informed of a P0017 code that I had already disclosed at the outset. Additionally, my newly changed oil was drained and replaced again for $91, and an engine cleaning solution was added for $120, none of which addressed the underlying issue or advanced the diagnostic process. After paying more than $400 and waiting the entire day, my vehicle was returned to me with the same P0017 code and without the repair I specifically requested.

The failure to perform the authorized service, combined with charges for work that did not resolve or even meaningfully address the stated problem, raises serious concerns regarding the fairness and appropriateness of the services rendered. Under basic consumer protection principles, a customer should not be charged for unnecessary or unauthorized work, nor should they be billed for diagnostic information they provided themselves.

Accordingly, I am requesting the following resolution:

1. A refund of at least 50% of the total amount paid, reflecting the portion of charges that did not contribute to resolving the issue; and
2. Completion of the crankshaft sensor replacement which will be paid by the other 50% of my payment, the repair I originally authorized and the reason for my visit.

After review of our actions here and determining that we did not disclose our policy to you as well as updating you with the new total for the additional approved work I've decided that a full refund is warranted. I appreciate you agreeing to these terms and apologize for the situation.
