Sam Hutchison opened Brake King in 1966 on Jefferson Avenue in Newport News, VA. Under Sam's leadership, Brake King quickly grew from 10 to 18 service bays, becoming the largest automotive repair facility in Hampton Roads.

Following Sam’s passing in 1977, his son Randy took over the business that he had been working in for most of his Sam Hutchison opened Brake King in 1966 on Jefferson Avenue in Newport News, VA. Under Sam's leadership, Brake King quickly grew from 10 to 18 service bays, becoming the largest automotive repair facility in Hampton Roads.

Following Sam’s passing in 1977, his son Randy took over the business that he had been working in for most of his life. Even though by this time Brake King had become a staple in the Newport News community, Randy set out to mold it into something larger. He added yet 2 more service bays to the already impressive facility and set out on a mission to offer the quickest possible service for the absolute lowest prices.

With this business plan in place, over the next 2 decades Brake King became an institution in Southeast Virginia. It is not only known for its quick service and low prices, but for its knowledgeable and friendly technicians who assist the customer throughout the entire repair process. It’s this close relationship between the customer and the person that is actually working on their vehicle that truly sets Brake King apart. All of this, along with Brake King's 3 key principles of honesty, integrity, and over the top customer service has allowed Brake King to become the preeminent family owned automotive repair facility in the state of Virginia.

Since 1966, Brake King has serviced over 500,000 vehicles from its one location and now currently has 30,000 customers in its growing database. Brake King customers travel from as far south as North Carolina and as far north as Washington DC to experience the difference. ...more

Diagnostic Test / Communication between service desk and garage
Good Bye BRAKE KING never again will my cars pull in to your parking lot!! Been a costumer for over 20 years!

Twice my car was “fixed” only to have the same problem after I left the parking lot!!

Most recent was a starter problem! Front desk do you want diagnostic test ($100)
Me ..no it’s the starter!
What was never explained to me was the meaning of diagnostic test…..
Let me explain my confusion on this communication!
I always thought diagnostic test was plugging the computer into the car to determine the problem! Apparently there is another “diagnostic test “ ! As in the mechanic looks over all parts to determine which part of the starter is not working correctly! So after returning to brake king to talk to my mechanic because my car was still doing the exact same thing! He said my instructions were to replace the starter! There was no instructions to do a diagnostic test! So he didn’t look it over to determine the actual problem! Wow hard to believe!! I’m out $450

Customer Service
I dropped off my car to get worked on and called twice to get an update. No one from customer service called to update me. Now they are closed and will not be open until Monday. I have to work this weekend and do not have a vehicle. I work in Arlington VA

Again as usual, I was please with the service Brake King had provided,. I was especially satisfied when I was informed of a service I didn't really need, c'mon, how many shops are that honest. I am very thankful for their services, even after over 40 years coming to them.

Fixed my rusty brake lines
Took in my inherited rust belt 2008 sonata with rusted out brake lines. I'm sure it was a tough job but they got it all done for the early estimate provided. Had a follow up issue which was immediately fixed at no additional charge. You Can Always Trust Brake King.

Excellent Maintenance
Brake King has kept my 1992 Oldsmobile Toranado in top shape. Maintenance is the thing. Today Oil Change (synthetic) and state inspection . Brakes, mufflers, struts, wheel alignments, to light blub replacement. You can count on excellent service at a fair price. Top notch mechanics and a helpful friendly staff.
