I am not from Portland, so after being told by the Dealership Service Department that my pickup truck needed new front brakes, with the pads measuring 3mm and 4mm left and right (they even gave me a print out, displaying those measurements) and that they were “probably a month out” before they could get to my truck, I asked my Brother-in-Law if he knew any decent shops in the area. He immediately recommended Auto Firm NW in Gresham. The next morning, I dropped the pickup off, expecting to hear that I would be paying for new pads possibly new rotors and a technician’s labor. Instead, I got a call from the shop owner Scott, telling me that the front brakes didn’t need replacing and that the pads were still well within tolerance, measuring 6mm both left and right. He added that he personally test drove the vehicle and that the brakes were fine. When I asked what I owed him for the inspection and test, he replied “No Charge.” That level of honesty speaks volumes. When it would have been perfectly easy to do an unnecessary job that I would have been happy to pay for because I was given incorrect information by the dealership, the Owner of Auto-Firm NW told me the straight-up truth and didn’t charge me a dime. The Last Honest Car Repair Shop in town? Maybe. The only Car Repair Shop in the Portland area that I will use from now on? Absolutely.
