Unreliable Vehicle & Untenable Warranty Service

This review reflects a deeply unsatisfactory ownership experience with the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid Plug In. Despite being under warranty, the vehicle has been plagued by persistent and recurring mechanical and system failures. The repeated issues—particularly affecting core hybrid components and essential comfort systems—raise serious concerns about both the vehicle’s reliability and the effectiveness of Hyundai’s service response. Key Issues: Hybrid System Failures: The hybrid system has failed on three separate occasions, requiring repeated service visits. These failures suggest a potentially fundamental flaw in the vehicle's core design or implementation of hybrid technology. Prolonged Dealership Stays: Since August 12, the vehicle has been at the dealership for repairs for all but three days. This indicates either a highly complex issue or insufficient diagnostic and repair capabilities. Either way, it reflects poorly on the overall service experience.In addition, the SantaFe has been at the dealership for extended periods of time on at least two other occasions. Non-Functional Heating System: The heating system remains non-functional, despite the thermostat being replaced twice. This issue significantly impacts comfort and safety, particularly in colder climates, and reflects a troubling inability to resolve relatively standard mechanical problems. Drivetrain Replacement: A new drivetrain was installed in an attempt to address ongoing issues, but this major repair has not resolved all of the vehicle’s problems. This further undermines confidence in the vehicle’s reliability and engineering. Unresolved Problems Persist: Even after multiple major repairs and part replacements, the vehicle continues to exhibit problems. This suggests that the underlying issues are systemic rather than isolated, and cannot be fixed with individual component replacements alone. Conclusion: My experience with this vehicle has been dominated by major system failures, extended downtime, and repeated, unsuccessful repair attempts. The vehicle has not been dependable, and the lack of resolution—even after significant interventions—leaves me questioning the long-term viability of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid. I hope this feedback helps Hyundai recognize the seriousness of these issues and prompts a more thorough investigation into potential design and quality control deficiencies.

2023 HYUNDAI SANTE FE PLUG-IN HYBRID

I DRIVE APPROXIMATELY 70,000 MILES PER YEAR AND I USUALLY BUY A NEW VEHICLE EVERY 3 YEARS. THIS VEHICLE IS THE FIRST VEHICLE THAT I HAVE BOUGHT IN THE LAST 20+YEARS THAT HAS NOT HAD A MAJOR PROBLEM OR RECALL. IN FACT, THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD ZERO (0) PROBLEMS. EVERYTHING IS AS ADVERTISED AND IT IS VERY EASY TO NAVIGATE THE MANY OPTIONS. DRIVES LIKE A DREAM

Great Car!

I really enjoy driving this car. I wish it had a longer than 33 mile charge, but at least it is still a hybrid so I can keep going. It does get great gas mileage though. There are some quirky things that happen, but seem to resolve themselves. LOL

Delighted with the purchase lots of legroom I'm six six and riding comfort plug-in is delightful I'm averaging 45 to 50 miles per gallon. I've had occasional computer glitches but nothing major.

Love everything about it except charging

Love every aspect however i have difficulty finding the correct chargers. The Santa Fe takes a J1776 charger and they are few and far between. I live in an apartment so cannot charge there, there are only two chargers i have found and they are both several miles away and im not going to sit in my car for 4 hours to charge on a regular basis. I have easily a hundred Tesla superchargers within one mile of me, but the adapter that Hyundai offers does not work with the Santa Fe. One issue i had was when i got a flat front tire; i used the included jack and as i was getting the car off the ground the jack started bending and then broke. Luckily i had moved away from the vehicle when i saw the bending start as pieces of the jack flew in a few directions. Its because of the weight of the front of the car likely from the batteries. Even the tow truck who had one of the industrial jacks like Nascar uses had difficulty getting the car lifted to change the tire. In future models you should include a much more heavy duty jack, or just none at all. One last thing, i am glad i got the 2023 model because the exterior redesign on the 2024 model is hideous. They made them boxy and square looking, trying to imitate a land rover i guess but the new look is truly awful.

Great Vehicle With Amazing Mileage!

I love my 2023 Santa Fe PHEV! I get excellent gas mileage, especially during the spring and summer months. Currently, I’m getting 90mpg! The vehicle holds a lot of groceries, fits adults comfortably, and meets my needs and expectations. I love all of the fancy features like remote start, my panoramic roof, heated and ventilated seats, and real-time camera views of my turn signals on my car dash. There have been a couple issues, like phantom signal turn alerts “check your turn signal.” I’ve brought this up at my free maintenance services (for the first 3 years) and they can’t find the problem. My other issue is that I bought my car shortly before the 2024 versions came out and Hyundai decided to offer their bluelink service for free. After 3 years of owning my vehicle, I’ll have to pay for this expensive overpriced service. Bluelink should not cost money unless you want to pay for extra services within the application like emergency services.

Don't buy this vehicle

Doesn't accelerate for .5-1seconds after pushing the accelerator. Makes a large clunk when shifting and will stutter at slow speeds uphill while turning. Dealer "fixed" the issue by replacing the rear differential, which helped with the clunking/suttering for about 6 months before the problem came back. Cannot reliably run on just battery power (would engage the engine on 1mi drives for school pickup and would engage engine when charge was full by fuel was almost empty).

Love my Santa Fe - Want more battery storage though

Works great, very reliable and we found an excellent service center in Florida but I do wish we could go more then 30 miles on a charge. It is very reliable and comfortable and has been a great purchase so far!

EV range not as advertised

The EV range is listed at 30 miles. Florida is absolutely flat and I have never gotten this range. The auto needs a bigger battery. Nice ride, though. The brackets near the left rear wheel which hold coolant lines in place, have failed causing the lines to bounce against the chassis. When I first received the vehicle, it listed the fully fueld, filly charged range at over 600 miles. I believe OTA updates messed with this figure. Unfortunately, Hyundai chose to unsuccessfully a Range Rover for 2025 when they could have refined the design and they dropped the plug-in (probably due to headaches with the vehicle).
